CBJ grants available to homeowners for new accessory dwelling units

February 22, 2024 – News

A number of grant spaces are currently available in the CBJ Accessory Dwelling Unit Grant program, which provides homeowners with up to $13,500 to add a new accessory dwelling unit (ADU) to their home. Homeowners interested in constructing an ADU are encouraged to visit the ADUG website to learn more about the program and how to apply.

Grants are made on the condition that the unit is not used as a short-term rental for five years, and one grant is available per person/per property. Other eligibility conditions, including code compliance and building inspections, can be found alongside the application form.

There are currently 15 grants available. Grant applications are accepted on a rolling basis and approved in the order they are received.

The Accessory Dwelling Unit Grant Program was created to further the growth of affordable housing in the community by encouraging homeowners to add an accessory dwelling unit to their home. Following a successful pilot program that helped create 44 new units through grants of $6,000 each, the program was formalized and the grant amount increased to $13,500 in August 2023.
