REACH OUT TO A NEIGHBOR – PAY IT FORWARD!
You can still to come together as a community informally if you feel you cannot commit to a volunteer activity. 30% of Juneau residents are over 55 and many are healthy and active but many also need occasional help. We want to encourage everyone to reach out to a neighbor – take in their trash can, invite them to go to Costco or Fred Meyers for a shopping trip, ask if they have any lil jobs you can help with – clearing out a closet, organizing shelves that are hard to reach. For those of us who are retired, we have more time in our day and you are encouraged to take some time every week to help someone who might need a lil bit of help or company. Recent research is showing that loneliness is as detrimental to your health as smoking half a pack of cigarettes a day. We encourage you to just reach out to an elder nearby and offer to go to lunch, have a cuppa tea, visit in the front year when the weather gets good.
AGING! SO COOL, EVERYONE IS DOING IT!
