Juneau Pools Lifeguard Training Class February 2026 

Registration is now open for February 2026 Juneau Pools lifeguarding class. Participants who successfully complete the class will earn an American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification, valid for two years. 

Class fees are $250 for general participants but free for those who apply for employment as a Juneau Pools lifeguard during the course. The class is open to a maximum of 10 people. 

Register online via the CBJ Parks and Recreation registration catalog by 12 p.m. on Monday, February 9. The class will take place Saturday, February 14 through Tuesday, February 17. 

Prerequisites: Complete a pre-course session in the pool before the course begins. The pre-course includes a 200-yard swim, brick retrieval from 10 feet, and treading water for 2 minutes. Contact Chris Barte at [email protected] to set up a time for the pre-course. Prerequisites must be completed by December 24. Participants must be 15 years old by the last day of class.

Registration Opens January 5 for Winter Swim Lessons 

Juneau Pools will offer a new session of swim lessons in all categories — Preschool, Youth, Adult, and Parent & Tot — beginning in January 2026.  Registration opens Monday, January 5 at noon through the Parks & Recreation registration catalog. Cost is $80 + tax for Youth, Preschool, and Adult classes. Parent & Tot classes are $60 + tax. Registrations will not be taken over the phone, in person, or in advance. 

Scholarship applications are available at bit.ly/ZGYCscholarship. Applications are due by Friday, January 2 at noon. 

Augustus Brown Swimming Pool Classes  

AGB Youth and Preschool will run January 12 to February 9 on Monday and Wednesday evenings excluding Monday, January 19. Classes are 30 minutes long and take place between 4:20 to 6:50 p.m. 

AGB Parent & Tot will run January 17 to February 21 on Saturday mornings from 10:15 to 11:30 a.m. 

Dimond Park Aquatic Center Classes 

DPAC Youth and Preschool will run January 13 to February 5 on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Classes are 30 minutes long and take place between 4:15 to 7 p.m.  

DPAC Adult Swim Lessons will run January 13 to February 5 on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:15 to 8 p.m. 

DPAC Parent & Tot will run January 10 to February 21 on Saturday mornings from 9:15 to 10:30 a.m., excluding Saturday, January 24. 

We ask that returning Parent & Tot attendees please wait until January 6 to register. 

Please be aware that swimmers must meet the registration prerequisites to register for any classes beyond Level 1.  Swimmers who have not attended a Juneau Pools swim test or passed the preceding class within the last six months will not be able to register for upper-level classes.

Juneau Pools Offering Water Safety Instructor Course in January 2026

Juneau Parks & Recreation is now accepting registrations for an upcoming American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification Course, taking place January 6 to 11, 2026 at the Dimond Park Aquatic Center. This course prepares participants to teach Red Cross swim and water safety curriculum and qualifies graduates to work as swimming instructors at Red Cross–affiliated aquatic facilities, including Juneau Pools.  

Registration closes December 30, 2025, one week prior to the course start date to allow time for required online coursework. Attendance at all class sessions is mandatory. Participants must be at least 15 years old by the final day of the course and pass a required pre-course swim skills test. The course is free for individuals who submit an application to teach swim lessons for Juneau Pools by January 11, 2026. All other participants will be charged a $400 fee. 

Course requirements include 7.5 hours of online coursework completed through the Red Cross Learning Center prior to the first day of class, as well as in-person classroom and in-water instruction. 

  • Pre-course Session on Tuesday, January 6: 5:15 to 6:45 p.m. 
  • Tuesday, January 6: 7 to 8 p.m. 
  • Wednesday, January 7: 5:15 to 8 p.m. 
  • Thursday, January 8: 5:15 to 8 p.m. 
  • Friday, January 9: 5:15 to 8 p.m. 
  • Saturday, January 10: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. 
  • Sunday, January 11: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

All in-person sessions will be held at the Dimond Park Aquatic Center.

Juneau Pools Lifeguard Training Class Starts Late December

Juneau Pools is hiring lifeguards for both full- and part-time positions—and offering a new training opportunity at the end of this month. Registration is now open for the December 2025 Juneau Pools lifeguarding class. Participants who successfully complete the class will earn an American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification, valid for two years. 

Register online via the Parks and Rec registration catalog by 12 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23. The class will take place Sunday, December 28 through Wednesday, December 31 on the following schedule:

  • Sunday, 12/28: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. @ Augustus Brown Swimming Pool
  • Monday, 12/29: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. @ Augustus Brown Swimming Pool
  • Tuesday, 12/30: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. @ Dimond Park Aquatic Center
  • Wednesday, 12/31: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. @ Dimond Park Aquatic Center

Just Keep Swimming with a Dive-In Movie this November 15

Ready to journey across the ocean from your local pool? Join CBJ Parks & Recreation for Finding Nemo (G) at the Dimond Park Aquatic Center on Saturday, November 15 at 4:30 p.m. This event is sponsored by SEARHC.  

Regular pool admission applies; pool passes are accepted. The pool is limited to 100 swimmers, but additional guests are welcome in the lobby at no charge. Locker rooms open 15 minutes before showtime. For more information about admission and passes, visit juneaupools.org.
