MUNICIPAL VOTER REGISTRATION DEADLINE COMING UP – SEPT. 2

The last day to register to vote for the October 2, 2018 Regular Municipal Election is Sunday, September 2, 2018. Voters should register, if possible, prior to that date.  If a voter has changed a name, or a residence or a mailing address, an updated voter registration application should be completed.  Voters may register to vote at any of the following locations:

  • State Division of Elections’ Office, 240 Main St., Room 601
  • State Division of Elections – Region I Office, Mendenhall Mall, 9109 Mendenhall Mall Road, Suite 3
  • Municipal Building, 155 S. Seward St., Clerk’s Office Room 202
  • Zach Gordon Youth Center
  • Any CBJ Library

You can also register to vote using the online Voter Registration portal through the State of Alaska Division of Elections Web Page at:  https://voterregistration.alaska.gov/ If you experience any difficulties trying to access this form, please contact the State Division of Elections directly at 465-3021.

If you are already registered but unsure where your polling place is, you can call the STATE OF ALASKA POLLING PLACE LOCATOR number 1-888-383-8683, enter your Social Security Number or your voter number when prompted, and you will be told where your polling place is located.

CBJ Regular Municipal Election – October 2, 2018

Sept. 2: Last Day to register to vote in the Oct. 2, 2018 Municipal Election

Sept. 17-Oct. 1: Early & Absentee In Person Voting Stations Open at City Hall and Mendenhall Mall Annex.

October 2: Election Day

  • Polls open, 7 a.m. – 8 p.m.
  • Election Central in the Assembly Chambers, 7:30 – 9:30 p.m.

Oct. 9: Certification of Regular Municipal Election

Oct. 15: New Assembly members swearing in/recognizing outgoing Mayor and Assembly members

Norton Gregory resigns from Assembly, opening up 1-year Areawide seat in Oct. election

Assembly member Norton Gregory resigned from the City and Borough of Juneau Assembly today. His departure leaves a new vacancy for an Areawide seat in the October 2 Regular Municipal Election. This is another opportunity for the public to serve the community. The Candidate Filing Period closes today, August 13 at 4:30 p.m.​

 The Areawide seat now on the ballot in the Regular Municipal Election will be a one-year term, which is the remainder of Gregory’s term. Juneau voters will also elect a mayor, two District 2 Assembly seats, a District 1 Assembly seat and three School Board seats. Residents of Downtown Juneau, Douglas, North Douglas, Lemon Creek and the Airport area are eligible to run for District 1; residents of Mendenhall Valley and out the road are eligible to run for District 2. The Mayor is an Areawide seat.

 Again, the Candidate Filing Period for the October 2 Regular Municipal Election closes today, August 13 at 4:30 p.m. People interested in running for municipal office must complete a Declaration of Candidacy, a Nominating Petition, and an Alaska Public Offices Commission Public Official Financial Disclosure. There forms are available online​ and must be filed with the CBJ Municipal Clerk Office during the filing period.

 To vote in the October 2 Regular Municipal Election, you must be registered by September 2. Voters, regardless of which District they live in, will get to vote for all open seats.

Candidate Filing Period Now Closed for October 2, 2018 Municipal Election

The Candidate Filing Period closed August 13 at 4:30 p.m.​

The list of certified candidates so far is posted on the Elections webpage at https://juneau.org/clerk/certified-municipal-candidates.  The Clerk’s office has four days after receipt of the nominating petitions in which to certify candidacy. There has been one Mayoral petition submitted that requires additional review before certification can be made. If/when that candidate’s petition is certified, it will be posted to the certified candidate webpage linked above.

To vote in the October 2 Regular Municipal Election, you must be registered by September 2. Voters, regardless of which District they live in, will get to vote for all open seats.
