2024-2025 Treadwell Arena season kicks off with free Back to School Skate on August 8

The ice is back at Treadwell Arena! Shake off the rust and get ready for a new season of skating—and a new school year—at a Back to School Skate on Thursday, August 8 from 3:45 – 5:15 p.m.

This event is free thanks to the generous sponsorship of the Douglas 4th of July Committee. Rental skates are included and are available first come, first served.

Starting in August, Treadwell Arena will host open and family skates as the 2024-2025 season gets underway. See the full schedule at treadwellarena.org.

Join Juneau Animal Rescue pet meet & greet at Treadwell Arena on June 29

Looking for a new four-legged friend? Treadwell Arena is hosting a future pet Meet & Greet on Saturday, June 29 from 12 – 3 p.m. Stop by to meet some of the lovable—and adoptable—cats and dogs from Juneau Animal Rescue, see agility course demonstrations from Capital Kennel Club, and learn more about responsible pet ownership resources from Grateful Dogs of Juneau.

Animal lovers of all kinds are welcome to join, whether or not you’re currently planning to adopt. This event is free, but pet food donations are welcome and encouraged.

Please note that only animals cared for by participating organizations may be in the facility for this event. As much as we would love to meet your pet, please leave them at home this time.

Free community open skate at Treadwell Arena on April 20

Lace up your skates for a free open skate at Treadwell Arena on Saturday, April 20 from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m.  All in the community are welcome to join this event, generously sponsored by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Alaska.

Admission and skate rental are free—just be aware that skates are limited and will be available first-come, first-served.

Skate to Frozen at Treadwell Arena’s Movie on Ice March 23

For the first time in forever, Juneau Parks & Recreation is hosting a Movie in the Park at Treadwell Arena! Lace up your skates—or watch from the bleachers—for “Frozen” (PG) on Saturday, March 23. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. and the show begins at 5 p.m.

This event is presented by Juneau Pediatric Dentistry.

Space on the ice is limited to 150 skaters. Regular admission rates apply (passes are accepted) and include skate rental on a first-come, first-served basis. Space in the bleachers is free of charge—just remember to dress warmly, unless the cold never bothered you anyway.

Food and drink are welcome off the ice, and popcorn will be available for purchase.

Try out speed skating at Treadwell Arena starting October 8

Treadwell Arena will offer drop-in speed skating clinics on Sundays throughout the season, beginning with a free session on October 8. The hour-long clinics will take place at 2:45 p.m. every other Sunday and cost $15 after October 8.

Skaters can register online in advance or drop in at their convenience. Short track speed skates are provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

Skaters must be at least 12 years of age. No speed skating experience is necessary, although participants should possess intermediate skating skills (able to skate comfortably and perform a snowplow stop).

Helmets are required during the clinic. A limited number will be available to borrow, or skaters are welcome to bring their own.
