Parks & Recreation Announce Extended Pickleball and Treadwell Arena Cement Season 

The City and Borough of Juneau Parks & Recreation is excited to share upcoming indoor programming for the summer season.  

Open pickleball at the Floyd Dryden Gym has been extended by five more sessions. The gym will be open Wednesdays and Saturdays during normal pickleball hours from Saturday, May 2 to Saturday, May 16. Admission is $5 per person and equipment is provided. Find more details under the section “Floyd Dryden Gym” at juneau.org/parks-recreation/gyms 

Not long after, Treadwell Arena will open indoor activities for its Cement season. From Tuesday, May 19 through Thursday, July 2, the arena will host the following programs:  

  • Noon Roller Skating: Every Tuesday through Saturday, from 12 to 1 p.m. 
  • Open Pickleball: Every Tuesday through Saturday, from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m.  
  • Evening Roller Skating: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 6 to 7 p.m.  
  • Disco Roller Skating: Fridays and Saturdays, from 6 to 7 p.m.  

All drop-ins cost $5 per person. Pickleball equipment is provided, but participants must bring their own roller skates. Find more information about Treadwell Arena’s Cement season programming at juneau.org/parks-recreation/treadwell-arena

Leave Your Mark at Treadwell Arena’s May 3 Open Skate 

End the season right by leaving your mark on the ice at Treadwell Arena. Starting at 6:15 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, visitors will get the chance to sign the ice with a bingo dauber before the final skate of the 2026 season begins. Visitors will then be invited to skate across the vibrant rink from 6:45 to 8 p.m. — connecting with friends, family, and neighbors to celebrate Juneau’s colorful community.  

Skating will not be allowed until 6:45 p.m., so be sure to bring boots, cleats or crampons to wear when writing your name on the ice. No other signatures will be allowed once the final skate begins.

Celebrate Spring with Treadwell Arena on April 5

Come celebrate the spring with City and Borough of Juneau’s Parks & Recreation department by joining Treadwell Arena’s upcoming April 5 events, Skate With the Bunny and Lucky Egg Hunt.  

Lucky Egg Hunt 

Starting at 12:30 p.m., kids 10 years old and younger will engage in an outdoor egg hunt encouraging physical activity, social interaction, and positive shared experiences among local families. Kids will be separated into five age groups to search for the golden egg. The finder will win a golden egg basket with lots of fun toys, trinkets, and nut-free candies inside. Egg hunts are quick, so make sure to arrive before the start time to participate!  

No registration is required for this event; show up, dress warm, and have fun.  

Skate With the Bunny 

From 1 to 2:30 p.m., Juneau residents of all ages are invited to a special open skate in the ice rink. Hang out with the bunny, make bunny-themed crafts, and enjoy a sensory room for the $7 regular admission price. Admission includes skate rentals on a first come first served basis. Only 200 residents can be on the ice at a given time; register at the Parks and Recreation catalog under the tab “Treadwell Arena, Themed Skates,” or at the door when you arrive.

Registration for CBJ Parks & Recreation’s Juneau Youth Summer Camps Open April 1 

Juneau Parks & Recreation 2026 summer youth camps, hosted May through August for kids ages 5 to 13 years old, open for registration at noon on Wednesday, April 1. Register by visiting the “Youth and Teen” and then “Camps” tabs at bit.ly/registerCBJparks. Spaces are limited and fill quickly.

This year’s camps are hosted by the Dimond Park Field House, Zach Gordon Youth Center, Treadwell Arena, and Juneau Pools through City and Borough of Juneau’s Parks & Recreation department. Camps available are half-day and full-day, and include activities like painting, swimming, live-action role-playing, hiking and more. Age ranges and prices vary per camp. Watch “Lilo & Stitch” at Treadwell Arena’s Movie in the Park December 27

Join Juneau Parks & Recreation for a Movie in the Park at Treadwell Arena! Lace up your skates—or watch from the bleachers—for “Lilo & Stitch (2025)” (PG) on Saturday, December 27. Doors open at 3:15 p.m. and the show begins at 3:30 p.m. 

This event is proudly presented by Coastal Helicopters—who are swooping in with some amazing prizes. 

Space on the ice is limited to 125 skaters. Regular admission rates apply (passes are accepted) and include skate rental on a first-come, first-served basis. Space in the bleachers is free of charge. Remember to dress for the ice. 

Food and drink are welcome off the ice, and popcorn will be available for purchase.
