Changes to DPAC hours and operations April 3 – April 6

Dimond Park Aquatic Center facilities will see hours changes and closures from Thursday, April 3 through Sunday, April 6 while the pool hosts a Glacier Swim Club competition.

The fitness deck will be closed to the public beginning Thursday, April 3. The rest of the facility will be closed from 8 a.m. on Friday, April 4, through end of day Sunday, April 6.

DPAC will reopen for normal hours on Monday, April 7 at 5:30 a.m.

Augustus G. Brown swimming pool will be open during the closure. See a complete schedule for both pools at juneaupools.org.

Juneau Pools announces additional swim lesson sessions

Dimond Park Aquatic Center, continuing the instruction from the previous session. These additional classes provide opportunities for preschool, youth, and adult swimmers to develop their skills.

Registration opens Friday, April 4, at noon. Registration will not be accepted over the phone, in person, or in advance.

Scholarships are available. To apply, complete the online form by Tuesday, April 2, at noon.

AGB YOUTH AND PRESCHOOL:
Preschool Levels 1-3 (ages 3-5) and Youth Levels 1-4 (ages 6-12) lessons will be held April 14 through May 7 on Mondays and Wednesdays between 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. The cost is $80 plus tax.

AGB ADULT SWIM LESSONS:
Adult swim lessons (ages 13 and up) will be held April 14 through April 30 on Mondays and Wednesdays between 6:45 to 7:30 p.m. The cost is $72 plus tax.

DPAC PARENT AND TOT SWIM LESSONS:
Parent and Tot swim lessons (ages 6 months to 2 years) will be held April 12 through May 31 on Saturdays between 9:15 to 10:30 a.m., with no class meetings on May 3 or May 10 due to DPAC’s annual maintenance closure. The cost is $60 plus tax.

Swimmers must meet registration prerequisites to enroll in any classes beyond Level 1. Swimmers who have not attended a Juneau Pools swim lesson placement session or passed the preceding class within the last six months will not be eligible to register for upper-level classes.

Summer hours at Jensen-Olson Arboretum begin April 2

The Jensen-Olson Arboretum will move to summer hours beginning April 2. The grounds will be open to visitors Wednesday – Sunday, 9 a.m – 5 p.m. and closed to the public Monday and Tuesday.

This year JOA celebrates its 18th year as a free public display garden in Juneau. The highlight of the garden are the many varieties of primroses held in JOA’s Nationally Accredited™ Collection for the genus Primula (primroses), which begin blooming in April and continue through frost.

JOA is located at 23035 Glacier Hwy. The main parking lot is adjacent to the highway, with accessible parking—closer to the gardens—located down the driveway.

Registration opens April 1 for CBJ Parks & Rec summer camps

Parks & Recreation will offer several weeklong day camps throughout the summer for children ages 5 – 13. Online registration opens Monday, April 1, at noon. Register online here (click the “Youth & Teen” tab). Each weeklong camp costs $118.75-$170 + tax. A total of 129 spaces are available.

Camps are offered at Zach Gordon Youth Center and Dimond Park. Each weeklong ZGYC camp focuses on a different theme, including arts and crafts, hiking and the outdoors, sports and games, and even real-world DnD. Schedules range from morning- and afternoon-only camps to all-day sessions.

The Dimond Park Adventure Camps offer a mix of swimming and water games at Dimond Park Aquatic Center (DPAC), active play at Dimond Park Field House, engaging activities at Mendenhall Valley Public Library, and exploration of the surrounding trails—all in one camp. Parents, please note that drop-off and pick-up locations vary between Session 1 and Session 2.

Hank Harmon Public Range annual board meeting scheduled for March 19

The Hank Harmon Public Range Board will hold its annual meeting on Wednesday, March 19 at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will take place in person at the Juneau Hunter Education Shooting Complex at 5670 Montana Creek Road. (On the right side of the road, go through the yellow gate to the building on the immediate right and enter through the glass door.)

Members of the public are welcome and encouraged to attend. Public comment and questions will be taken at the beginning of the meeting and limited to three minutes per person.

Please keep in mind that in accordance with range bylaws, only paid and participating members of at least 60 days may vote at the annual meeting (Article V, Section 1).
