Hank Harmon Public Range closed April 28 through mid-July
The Hank Harmon Public Range (HHPR) will close from Monday, April 28 through mid-July for repairs and upgrades. No shooting is permitted during the closure. Violators will be trespassed and may face fines and penalties.
This project is funded by a Pittman-Robertson Hunter Access Grant awarded to the City and Borough of Juneau and the HHPR Board in 2023. After years of planning and permitting, construction is ready to begin.
Upgrades will include replacing the wooden wall with a dirt berm, resurfacing the ranges, installing all-new shooting benches, improving ADA access, repairing the building, relocating shipping containers to expand parking, paving the lot, and installing new signage on-site and along the highway.
The long side of the range will be open to the public from Friday, April 25 through Sunday, April 27 for a final weekend of shooting before the extended closure begins.
Other shooting ranges available during the closure include the Juneau Gun Club, located at 5680 Montana Creek Road, which offers public shotgun-only access on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Wednesdays from 6 to 9 p.m. Visit juneaugunclub.org for details. The Juneau Hunter Education Shooting Complex at 5670 Montana Creek Road is open Saturday through Tuesday from noon to 6 p.m. and allows handguns up to .44 magnum, rimfire rifles and pistols, and pistol caliber carbines. Centerfire rifles and shotguns are not permitted. Visit alaska.gov/go/3u10 for more information.
