Register for May 17 Dimond Dash Super Short Relay Triathlon

City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ) Parks & Recreation is partnering with Aukeman Triathlon to host the Dimond Dash Super Short Relay Triathlon on Sunday, May 17 at Dimond Park. Online registration opens today, March 25, at noon through the Parks and Recreation registration catalog under the “Special Events” tab. The registration fee is $60 per team until Monday, April 27. Afterwards, registration is $75 per team until registration closes on Friday, May 15 or reaches capacity.

Participants can enter the triathlon individually or in teams of three to complete a sprint-length triathlon course—including a 150-yard swim, 1.25 mile bike, and 0.5 mile run—for a combined race time. Individual participants will need to complete the course three times.

Registration includes two steps when competing as a three-person team. First, the team captain registers the team and pays the registration fee. Second, each team member registers as a participant in the event at no charge.

General registration is open to participants ages 12 years and up, but young triathletes ages 8 to 11 years old may register if they are a current member of a swim team, or if they have or plan to participate in the 2025 or 2026 Youth Triathlon Training Camp.

Kaxdigoowu Heen Dei (Brotherhood Bridge Trail) Closed for Phase 2 HESCO Barrier Installation

The Kaxdigoowu Heen Dei (Brotherhood Bridge Trail) is closed starting today, March 24, due to Phase 2 installation of HESCO barriers along the western side of the paved trail from the Brotherhood Bridge parking lot through the meadow. Work and the associated trail closure will last approximately one month.

The trail will be closed to the public as the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and their contractor Sealaska Constructors leads barrier installation. Barriers will be placed on the neighborhood (uphill) side of the trail, allowing for ADA accessible use of the trail after planned installation is complete. Alternative access to the trail is present from the Dimond Park Field House via the footbridge.

The public is asked to avoid the construction area for the safety of workers, residents, and visitors. More information and further updates will be provided on the CBJ website at juneau.org/engineering-public-works/hesco-barrier-phase-2 as available.

Celebrate Spring by Adopting a Flower with CBJ Parks & Recreation

Every year, the City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ) accepts donations from Juneau residents to support the thousands of colorful plants that brighten community spaces throughout town. All donations made to the Adopt-A-Flower program fund 200 hanging baskets, 60 flower barrels, and 50 flower beds and planters in Juneau – from Juneau’s libraries, harbors, and Bartlett Regional Hospital to Twin Lakes, Sigoo Wu Ye, and other community parks. To donate and support this annual program, visit the tab “Special Events” under the Parks & Recreation registration catalog

All donations received by April 30, 2026 will be recognized on an Adopt-A-Flower sign displayed at Marine Park Plaza. Donations for the Adopt-A-Flower program come in various funding levels:

  • Seedling Sponsor: $25+
  • Flower Bed Sponsor: $100+
  • Flower Barrel Sponsor: $250+
  • Hanging Basket Sponsor: $500+

The first seven people who donate $500 or more will receive a hanging basket from the CBJ Parks & Recreation Landscape Division.

Many of the flowers that CBJ plants start as seedlings in CBJ’s Mendenhall Valley greenhouse. In preparation for the summer season, CBJ Parks & Recreation Landscape Division staff members plant and care for more than 16,000 seedlings. The flowers are then transplanted to their summer displays in May.

CBJ Parks & Recreation greatly appreciates community support for this program, which fund over 60% of the cost of planting materials each year. The program is also funded by Marine Passenger Fees, general funds, and revenue from Docks and Harbors, Bartlett Regional Hospital, the Juneau International Airport and downtown parking.

For more information about the Adopt-A-Flower program, call CBJ Parks & Recreation at 907-586-5226.
