Fish Creek Trail used for running event Sunday, May 19

Portions of the Fish Creek Trail and parking lot will be used for the Juneau Trail & Road Runners (JTRR) Springtide Scramble 8 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 19. The parking lot will be open to the public during the event.

Restructured pool fees go into effect July 1

The City and Borough of Juneau Aquatics Division has restructured admission fees to the Augustus Brown Pool and the Dimond Park Aquatic Center, which go into effect July 1.

Pool rates haven’t changed since 2016. The Day Pass rates will remain the same. The rest of the rates will increase between 4 and 10 percent. The Aquatics Board approved the restructured fees in January and the Juneau Assembly approved them at its May 13 meeting.

What’s happening on CBJ trails May 11?

  • Girls on the Run and Boys Run 5k

 

Savikko Park, Sandy Beach and the Treadwell Historic Trail area will be in use from 10am until approximately 12pm on Saturday, May 11 for AWARE’s Girls on the Run/Boys Run 5k. The trail will remain open to the public during the event. Please be cautious with runners on the trail.   For more information about the event, contact AWARE coordinator Kirk Burke at 586-4902.

  • Alaska Peace Officers (APOA) Sprint Triathlon

 

The Kaxdigoowu Heen Dei (Brotherhood Bridge) Trail will be used for the APOA Sprint Triathlon 7-11 a.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2019. The trail will remain open to the public during the event. Please be cautious with all the runners and bikers in the area. For more information about the event, contact Sarah Hieb at 321-5705.

CBJ Downtown Parking Garage Permit Sales Temporarily Suspended

Due to heavy demand, the Parks and Recreation Department has temporarily suspended sales of parking permits for both the Marine Parking Garage and the Downtown Transportation Center Parking Garage. Parks and Recreation has started a waitlist for parking permits, and additional capacity should be available at both facilities later this month.

Hourly or daily parking is available in the North Franklin Parking lot, the Shopper’s Parking lot and in spaces 5-25 of the Marine Parking Garage. The cost to park in these locations is 75¢ an hour, or $5 per day.

Girls & boys will have separate leagues in upcoming Parks & Rec youth outdoor soccer season

Registration opens this Saturday, May 11 for the City and Borough of Juneau Parks & Recreation’s youth outdoor soccer for ages 5 to 14. Registration runs through May 26 and costs $55. New this year, Parks & Rec will have separate leagues for girls and boys.

The season runs July through August. Generally, kids will practice one night a week, Monday through Thursday between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Games will take place on Saturdays between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Both the boys and girls leagues will be broken into divisions by age and area, though depending on the number of kids, divisions and areas may be combined. Kids must turn 5 years old by August 31, 2019 in order to play. Parks & Rec will not accommodate coach requests.

Register online or in person at City Hall Parks & Rec or Zach Gordon Youth Center during business hours. A $10 late fee will be applied to registrations beginning May 27 for a total of $65. Registrations received after June 16 will be placed on a wait list.
