The Flume Trail will remain closed due to landslide damage over the weekend. Repairs are estimated to take about a month. Please follow all posted closure signs.

Coaches Summit focusing on creating fun & healthy competition is looking for workshop presenters

The Zach Gordon Youth Center is hosting an all-day Coaches Summit on November 9 at Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The 2019 Coaches Summit: Connect. Play. Change The Game provides a day of professional development and connection for youth coaches in Juneau and around Southeast Alaska. If you’re interested in presenting at the summit, workshop proposals are due October 9.

The goal of the summit is to give coaches the tools for creating sports programs that both support youth in connecting, growing, and competing, and enhance youths’ lives moving into the future. The keynote speaker is John O’Sullivan, founder of the Changing The Game Project and author of several books on coaching youth sports. A leader in the field of youth sports, O’Sullivan is nationally recognized for his focus on fun and healthy competition over winning.

To present at the summit, submit a workshop proposal by Wednesday, October 9. Areas of interest include trauma-informed coaching, culturally responsive coaching, creating positive relationships with families, identifying substance abuse in youth, program management, behavior management, and inclusive coaching for youth with disabilities.

Marine Park Plaza opens for seasonal parking October 4, 2019 through April 17, 2020

Beginning Friday, October 4, the Marine Park Plaza will be open for seasonal parking to all Marine Parking Garage permit holders.  Parking at the plaza will be available through Friday, April 17.

In order to park in the Plaza, drivers must purchase a Marine Parking Garage parking permit, which allows parking in the Marine Parking Garage, as well as the Marine Park Plaza. Permits can be purchased downtown at the Parks & Recreation office, located in Room 218 of City Hall.

Parking at the Plaza will be available on a first-come first-served basis, and parking is prohibited between the hours of 2 a.m. and 6 a.m., to accommodate snow removal needs.

Auke Lake buoys removal happening Sept. 26

Park rangers are removing the Auke Lake buoys today, September 26th.  The gate at the launch ramp will remain open until further notice.  Please obey the no wake zones near the launch ramp and at the north end of the lake.  The no motorized vessel closures that are 100 feet from the eastern lakeshore and 300 feet from the western shore remain in effect.  Refer to the map near the launch ramp or at http://www.juneau.org/parkrec/documents/2017AukeBrochure.pdf  for a complete list of lake regulations.
