Do you recreate in the Montana Creek area? Take this survey.

The City and Borough of Juneau is working with the United States Forest Service, the State of Alaska Department of Natural Resources, and Trail Mix to develop the Montana Creek Master Plan. As a first step in this process, the public is invited to take this survey. The goal of the survey, which is open through 5 p.m. August 19, is to understand community values and use of the area.

The Montana Creek Master Plan will encompass the Montana Creek valley, watershed, Spaulding Meadows, and surrounding areas. Recreational activities that take place there include fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, shooting sports, hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, four wheeling, camping, and subsistence harvesting.

During the Master Plan process, Parks & Recreation will work with land owners, user groups and the general public to understand current use of the area, existing plans and projects, proposed projects, ideas and concerns for recreational use of the area, impacts to natural resources, and current recreational uses. The goal is to create a master planning document through a public process that identifies recreational facilities in the Montana Creek Recreation Area with a planning horizon of 10 years. Following the survey, Parks & Recreation will organize stakeholder and general public meetings in the fall with a goal to complete the plan by December 2021.

The Montana Creek recreation survey closes August 19 at 5 p.m. Take the survey now.

For more information, go to the project webpage or the Facebook event, or contact the Parks & Recreation Department at 586-5226 or [email protected].
