Learn more about flood preparation for homeowners at USACE events November 12 & 14

CBJ and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will host public events on November 12 and 14 to share knowledge and answer questions about flood preparation for homeowners.

In the wake of the recent Mendenhall River flood, many homeowners in the community are exploring individual flood-fighting and mitigation tactics for the first time. If you have questions like how to use sandbags, steps to take to protect your home, or what to do after you receive a flood warning, these events are for you.

On Tuesday, November 12, USACE will hold a public meeting from 6 – 8 p.m. The meeting will include a presentation followed by Q&A.

On Thursday, November 14, USACE will hold an open house from 4 – 7 p.m. Stop by any time to ask questions or chat one-on-one with USACE experts.

Both events will take place in the Thunder Mountain Middle School auditorium (3101 Dimond Park Loop). Although the events won’t be livestreamed, a recording of the public meeting will be available online afterwards. (The open house will not be recorded.)

These opportunities are dedicated to addressing questions individual homeowners might have about how to protect their home and property. In addition, CBJ is currently exploring a number of middle- and long-term mitigation options (such as HESCO barriers). For more information about past and upcoming public meetings on those topics, sign up for CBJ alerts at bit.ly/CBJAlerts, follow CBJ on Facebook, or check the Public Meetings tab on CBJ’s Flood Response webpage.
