Public Comment Period for Draft Blueprint Downtown Area Plan Extended to September 12

The public comment period for the Draft Blueprint Downtown Juneau Area Plan has been extended to September 12, 2022. We want to hear from everyone in the community to make Blueprint Downtown the best it can be – and now you have more time to share your feedback.

Blueprint Downtown will establish a 20-year vision, goals, priorities and action strategies to help guide future downtown development. The draft plan is ready for public review and can be found online at the Blueprint Downtown website. Hard copies of the plan are available at all Juneau Public Libraries, the City Clerk’s Office in City Hall, or the Community Development Department office in the Marine View building.

After the public comment period, the Steering Committee will meet to address all public comments received. The plan will then proceed to the Planning Commission and the Juneau Assembly – and associated public hearings – before it is finalized.

Anyone may comment, whether you live, work, shop, play or learn in Downtown.

Comments are due by September 12 and may be submitted in writing to [email protected] or CBJ Community Development Dept., Attn: Blueprint Downtown, 155 S. Seward Street, Juneau, AK 99801.

Have your say on long-term vision for South Douglas/West Juneau

Are you part of the South Douglas/West Juneau community? Have you ever thought about how it will look and feel 20 years from now? Now is your chance to share your thoughts, discuss potential choices, and help shape the future of your community.

The South Douglas/West Juneau Area Plan will be Douglas’ long-term area plan, establishing a vision for the area from Sandy Beach to the Douglas Bridge to guide growth and development for the next 20 years. Right now, the Area Plan Steering Committee is hard at work. The nine-member committee is working with staff to create goals, recommendations and a draft plan. The draft plan will be presented to the public for review before it goes to the Planning Commission, and ultimately to the Assembly for adoption.

Steering Committee meetings are open to the public and we welcome your input and involvement.  The next meeting will be held tomorrow, August 16, at 5 p.m.

Join the meeting remotely here or visit the website for dial-in information.

A property acquisition and disposal review of land by the City & Borough of Juneau (PAD2022 0002)

The application is seeking to sell 105,347 square feet of land to the CBJ and purchase 140,394 square feet of land from the CBJ. This land swap is being proposed as a means of creating additional buildable lots within the CBJ, in conformity with the 2013 CBJ Comprehensive Plan. In addition, the land being conveyed to CBJ would be included in the existing designated stream buffer to extend protection of Grant Creek, an anadromous water body. This effort is also in conformity with the 2013 Comprehensive Plan.

A Conditional Use Permit modification for Juneau Youth Services (USE2022 0010)

Juneau Youth Services (JYS) is proposing to convert seven dorm rooms in the currently vacant Montana Creek House into office spaces for JYS staff. This will allow JYS to move staff and programs from their secondary location on Jordan Avenue to the JYS residential treatment campus. This consolidation will allow JYS to provide on-site support services directly related to the existing residential treatment uses, as well as complementary programs run by JYS.
