Ensure you get your ballot for CBJ’s October 6 By Mail Regular Municipal Election

The City and Borough of Juneau will be conducting the October 6 Regular Municipal Election by mail. To ensure CBJ has an accurate mailing address for each voter, please go to the State of Alaska Division of Elections voter information website to check and/or update your residence and mailing address so you can receive your ballot by mail. If your mailing addresses has changed, it must be updated by September 6 in order to get a ballot. CBJ has mailed registered voters in Juneau a postcard to remind them of this same information. If you do not receive a postcard in the mail by Friday, July 17, check the status of your voter registration and confirm that you are a registered voter and what mailing address you are registered to receive your mail at.

If you want to receive your CBJ Regular Election ballot at a temporary mailing address from September 14 to October 5, you may request that a ballot be sent to your temporary address by completing CBJ’s Application to Vote at a Temporary Address. Applications to vote at a temporary address are encouraged to be submitted no later than September 6 to be included in the initial ballot mailing and must be received by the Municipal Clerk’s Office no later than September 29. Ballots will not be forwarded.

  • As a reminder, the Candidate Filing Period for CBJ’s October 6 Regular Municipal Election opens Friday, July 17 at 8 a.m. and closes July 27 at 4:30 p.m. Three Juneau Assembly seats and two School Board seats are open. In order to file for office, candidates must submit a Declaration of Candidacy Form with their Nomination Petition signed by at least 25 registered voters and a printed signed copy of their Alaska Public Offices Commission Public Official Financial Disclosure (APOC POFD) form. Find the Nomination Petition forms here and go to the Alaska Public Offices Commission website to complete the APOC POFD forms electronically.
  • If you’re thinking about running for local office, plan to work for someone who is, or just want a crash course on how local government works, you should attend the free “How to Run for Local Office” Workshop this Saturday, July 18. Learn more and register for the workshop on the League of Women Voters of Juneau website.

Want to run for local office? Filing period opens July 17; workshop is on July 18.

Three Juneau Assembly seats and two School Board seats are on the ballot for the October 6 City and Borough of Juneau Regular Municipal Election, which is being conducted this year as a vote-by-mail election. The filing period to run for one of these seats opens 8 a.m. July 17 and closes 4:30 p.m. July 27.

In order to file for office, candidates must submit a Declaration of Candidacy Form with their Nomination Petition signed by at least 25 registered voters. Find those forms here. In addition, candidates must go to the Alaska Public Offices Commission website and electronically complete a Public Official Financial Disclosure Statement.

If you’re thinking about running for local office, plan to work for someone who is, or just want a crash course on how local government works, you should attend the free July 18 “How to Run for Local Office” Workshop. Learn what it’s like to serve on the Juneau Assembly and School Board, and hear directly from current and past elected officials.

The annual workshop – virtual only this year – is on Saturday, July 18, 9 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. It’s free and focuses on: what it’s like to serve on the Assembly and School Board, preparing to run, legal requirements for candidates, and campaign basics. Learn more and register for the workshop on the League of Women Voters of Juneau website. The workshop is also sponsored by the CBJ Clerk’s Office, Juneau Public Libraries, and the Juneau School District.
