CBJ reports one new COVID-19 case in Juneau

The City and Borough of Juneau Emergency Operations Center is reporting one new resident identified with COVID-19 in Juneau. How the individual acquired the virus is under investigation. All nine cases of the small party cluster have recovered; Public Health considers this cluster closed.

Cumulatively, Juneau has had 1,333 residents test positive for COVID-19 and 161 nonresidents. There are eight active cases in Juneau and 1,481 individuals have recovered. All individuals with active cases of COVID-19 are in isolation.

Statewide, the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) reports 68 new individuals identified with COVID-19 – 66 are residents and two are nonresidents. Alaska has had 67,317 cumulative resident cases of COVID-19 and a total of 2,802 nonresidents.

Juneau’s 14-day COVID-19 recap: May 10 – May 23

Over the 14-day period from May 10 to May 23, there were 17 people in Juneau who tested positive for COVID-19 (that’s down from 29 during the previous two weeks):

  • 18 percent of the cases were associated with a cluster that was a result of a small party. There were nine identified cases within that cluster.
  • Public Health attributed 59 percent of cases to secondary transmission, 17 percent to out-of-state travel, 12 percent to community spread, and 12 percent of the cases remain under investigation.
  • 100 percent of cases were contacted for contact tracing within 24 hours of a positive test being returned.
  • Disease spread is proportionally higher among individuals under the age of 19 and less prevalent in those over the age of 60. There is case positivity among various racial groups (the category of individuals who self-identify as white is highest with seven), and more cases in females than males (65 percent/35 percent).

The community continues to see COVID-19 spread in the community with a higher proportion of cases occurring in youth under the age of 19. Two variants of concern have been identified in Juneau (B1.1.7 and P1).

Vaccine update:

  • 63.8 percent of the total population of Juneau has received at least 1 dose of vaccine and 58.2 percent has completed the vaccine series.
  • 94.8 percent of the population in Juneau age 65+ has received at least one dose of vaccine and 91.8 percent has completed the vaccine series.

The City and Borough of Juneau Emergency Operations Center is reporting four new residents identified with COVID-19 in Juneau. Public Health attributes two cases to secondary transmission and two others are under investigation. The small party cluster remains at nine cases with eight recovered.

Cumulatively, Juneau has had 1,332 residents test positive for COVID-19 and 161 nonresidents. There are nine active cases in Juneau and 1,479 individuals have recovered. All individuals with active cases of COVID-19 are in isolation.

Statewide, the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) reports 38 new residents identified with COVID-19. Alaska has had 67,252 cumulative resident cases of COVID-19 and a total of 2,800 nonresidents.

Vaccine information

According to DHSS, as well as data reported from the U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs:

  • 20,058 people in Juneau have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. That’s 63.1 percent of Juneau’s total population.
  • 18,211 have completed their vaccine series. That’s 57.3 percent of Juneau’s total population.

Statewide, 322,908 people have received their first dose, according to DHSS, and 279,145 are fully vaccinated.

Public Health attributes one case to secondary transmission and the other is under investigation. The small party cluster is still at nine cases, now with eight recovered.

Cumulatively, Juneau has had 1,328 residents test positive for COVID-19 and 161 nonresidents. There are six active cases in Juneau and 1,478 individuals have recovered. All individuals with active cases of COVID-19 are in isolation.

Statewide, the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) reports 99 new people identified with COVID-19 over the past three days – 95 are residents and four are nonresidents. Alaska has had 67,199 cumulative resident cases of COVID-19 and a total of 2,800 nonresidents.

No new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in Juneau today. Cumulatively, Juneau has had 1,326 residents test positive for COVID-19 and 161 nonresidents. There are nine active cases in Juneau and 1,473 individuals have recovered. All individuals with active cases of COVID-19 are in isolation. The small party cluster remains at nine cases with seven recovered.
