The Emergency Vehicle Access Road (“EVAR”), commonly known as the “Airport Dike Trail,” is one of the most popular walking areas in Juneau. With its gentle grade, sweeping panoramic views of mountains, wetlands, river, and sea, it is easy to understand why it is a favorite trail for hikers, dog-walkers, bicyclists, runners and photographers. In recent years, the Airport expanded the parking lot at the roadway entrance to accommodate the high level of public use. For planning purposes, the distance to the ‘log’/bench is slightly more than one mile, one way.

As part of the Juneau International Airport property, the EVAR plays an important role in the Airport’s emergency access system. While the EVAR is open to the public, users are reminded to give way to emergency and Airport vehicles that might enter or be present at any time along the roadway.

Do not leave trash or food that may attract birds or other wildlife to the area; this is the approach path of aircraft. The Airport has an aggressive wildlife mitigation program for the safety of aircraft 365 days/year. Be advised that pyrotechnics, dispersal of firearms and other mitigation measures may occur at any time.

EVAR may be closed from time-to-time to provide maintenance and safety repairs. Signs will be posted when it is closed.

• Always give way to emergency or Airport vehicles!
• Do not feed birds/wildlife as this may attract them and become a hazard to aircraft.
• Be respectful toward other users.
• Clean up after your dog.
• Call Airport Police at 586-0899 if you notice suspicious activity.
• Use the EVAR/Dike Trail at your own risk.
