Movie in the Park | Wish (PG) on May 3

Your wish has come true! Movie in the Park heads to Dimond Park Field House on May 3 for a free, family-friendly show presented by Juneau Pediatric Dentistry. The doors open at 5:45 p.m. and Wish (PG) begins at 6 p.m. Pillows and blankets are welcome to get comfortable, however food and drink, other than water, are not allowed on the turf.

StoryPath #1 | May 1 - 7

Juneau Parks & Recreation, Juneau Education Association, and Juneau Public Libraries bring you StoryPath to promote reading, physical activity and getting outside. Three stories—written or illustrated by talented Alaskans—will be displayed along the railing at Overstreet Park over the course of three weeks. Take a stroll and read a book! The first installment is May 1 - 7, right in time for the Maritime Festival. Take “an inside look at ten amazing watercraft” in Tom Crestodina’s book Working Boats.

Youth Floorball Coming to Treadwell Arena

Parks & Recreation is adding Floorball to the Youth Sports lineup! Floorball that takes place at Treadwell Arena from June 3 - 26 while the ice it out. There will be two division of play: 8-10 years and 11-14 years. Players will need to attend a mandatory skills clinic on May 22 to learn some basics of the game. Then teams will have one 1-hour session each week on Monday or Wednesday evening that includes 15 minutes of skills followed by 3 12-minute periods of game play. Registration for the season opens at 8 a.m. on May 6 and costs $45 + tax. Find more information on the Floorball webpage.

Climbing Wall Volunteers Needed

The Zach Gordon Youth Center is searching for adult volunteers who can commit to 1.5 hours a week volunteering to belay kids on the climbing wall afterschool. Applicants must fill out a Park and Recreation Volunteer Application and pass a background check. Previous climbing/belay experience is preferred, but training will be provided. Call or stop by the Youth Center to pick up a volunteer application.
