January 9, 2022 – FYI, News

Here are some winter storm updates and reminders:

  • Juneau School District: Due to hazardous weather conditions in the Juneau area, all Juneau School District schools and offices will be closed Monday, January 10, for both students and staff. All classes, activities, RALLY and after-school programs are canceled for the safety of our students and employees. There will be no distance delivery or online classes. Further updates will be posted on the district website juneauschools.org.
  • City and Borough of Juneau: CBJ offices and facilities will be open Monday, January 10. For CBJ staff: Please check with supervisors about telework options and the liberal leave policy is in effect.
  • Thane Road: According to the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities, Thane Road is currently closed at the avalanche gates due to high avalanche hazard to the roadway. The avalanche hazard is expected to remain high overnight and into Monday. This emergency closure will be re-evaluated at 8 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 10.

Please use extreme caution when driving. Roadways are in various stages of being plowed. Juneau Police Department has gotten several reports of vehicles getting stuck in the roadway, which increases roadway hazards. If you don’t need to be out driving, please stay home.
