Welcome Capital City Fire Rescue’s Newest Airport Rescue Vehicles at Open House on October 10
Capital City Fire Rescue (CCFR) invites the public to an open house at Fire Station 3, located at 1700 Crest Avenue near the Juneau International Airport, on Saturday, October 10 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. At the open house, residents and their families can participate in tours of the station and check out the new Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) truck and wetlands rescue vehicle. Come learn how these vehicles are critical to safe airport operations.
At 11 a.m., there will be a push-in ceremony welcoming CCFR’s newest ARFF truck to the fleet. Capable of crossing difficult terrain while carrying large-capacity water tanks and chemical extinguishers, ARFF trucks are required by the Federal Aviation Administration and used to address aircraft, medical, and fire emergencies. The push-in ceremony marks the last ARFF truck needed at the Juneau International Airport after two of Juneau’s three required trucks aged out of service earlier this year. Two rental trucks were used to maintain airport services. CCFR commissioned another ARFF truck replacement in September.
In addition to the new ARFF trucks, open house visitors can explore CCFR’s new wetlands rescue vehicle, called a Marsh Master MM-2MX. The vehicle is used to move large numbers of people from potential accident zones – like tidal wetlands – around the airport.
Capital City Fire Rescue and the Juneau International Airport look forward to sharing the full ARFF fleet and the Marsh Master MM-2MX at the Station 3 open house. The open house will also share information about CCFR operations, updates and how to join the volunteer firefighting program.
The ARFF trucks were purchased using airport funds and CCFR’s fleet reserve funds, with both funding sources to be reimbursed using airport facility charge revenue. The wetland rescue vehicle was purchased with a Federal Aviation Administration grant.
