Thane Road closure for avalanche hazard reduction Tuesday, March 9, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) plans an emergency road closure for Thane Road on Tuesday, March 9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. During the closure, DOT&PF will conduct avalanche hazard reduction (weather permitting) to allow AEL&P to make repairs on a damaged transmission line. An extended road closure may be necessary if avalanche debris reaches the roadway.

Due to the depth and structure of the snowpack, DOT&PF will once again be using explosives for the work. Downtown Juneau and Douglas residents should be prepared for some loud reports. Information on Thane Road avalanche hazard reduction closures can be found at dot.alaska.gov/sereg/thaneroad/.
