Temporary drive-thru COVID-19 testing outside Centennial Hall this Friday thru Sunday

September 10, 2020 – News

To fulfill the current high demand for COVID-19 testing, the City and Borough of Juneau is standing up a temporary drive-thru testing facility outside Centennial Hall this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (September 11-13) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Walk-ups will also be accommodated. This testing opportunity is for people who’ve recently socialized at a Juneau bar. No appointment is necessary. People can just show up. Tests will be administered as quickly as possible, but there may be wait times involved.

Due to a number of cases being linked to a social gathering that included employees at Juneau bars, CBJ and local Public Health officials recommend that people who’ve recently socialized at a Juneau bar get tested for COVID-19 regardless of whether they have symptoms. Exceptions to this are people who don’t have symptoms and 1) last socialized at a bar 14 days ago, or 2) last socialized at a bar 10-14 days ago and can practice strict social distancing for the next couple of days. Read what strict social distancing means here; scroll down a bit.

“Socialized” means you were in close proximity to other people not in your household at the bar, weren’t always wearing a mask, others near you weren’t always wearing a mask, and you were in that environment for an extended period of time (more than 15 minutes).

People who fit the criteria for testing should utilize the drive-thru testing facility outside Centennial Hall this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Again, no appointment is necessary.
