July 3, 2020 – News

The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services reports one new resident case of COVID-19 in Juneau. How the individual contracted the virus is under investigation. Juneau’s case today is part of 46 new resident and 14 nonresident cases statewide.

“We are concerned about Alaska’s sharp rise in cases and hope everyone takes this as a warning call to limit contacts this weekend, stay six feet apart from non-household members, wear a face mask and wash your hands often. If you are sick, even with mild COVID-19 symptoms, please isolate yourself and seek testing. We need all Alaskans working together to break infection chains,” Alaska Chief Medical Officer Anne Zink said in a state press release today.

Cumulatively, 45 residents from Juneau have tested positive for COVID-19 since March. Of those, four cases are active, 39 individuals have recovered, and two are deceased. Juneau has had a total of five nonresidents with COVID-19, four of which have recovered or are no longer in Juneau.

Alaska has had 1,063 cumulative resident cases – 509 are active – and a total of 223 nonresidents, including 14 reported today. The state also reported a new death; 15 deaths have now been attributed to Alaska. The person who died was a male Anchorage resident in his 80s who passed away in early June. COVID-19 was listed as a contributing cause of death.
