Register now for Walk Southeast & walk to Ketchikan without leaving Juneau

April 21, 2021 – FYI

What Southeast Alaska community can you walk, run, or hike to by September 1 without ever leaving Juneau? 104 miles to Skagway or 297 miles to Ketchikan? Parks & Recreation’s Walk Southeast is a free and fun activity that helps you stay active by tracking miles you walk, run, or hike between May 1 and September 1. Hit the trails, go for a walk, or even jump on the treadmill. The more miles you log, the more chances you have to win prizes. Register now through May 14 here (look under Special Events).

Registered participants will receive a Mileage Tracker via email before May 1. If you happen to register later than that, you will get a tracker at the time of registration. Print or download the tracker and mark off the miles you walk, run, or hike between May 1 and September 1 using the check boxes, the log, or both. To be eligible for prizes and receive a Walk Southeast sticker, submit your tracker by September 2 on the Walk Southeast webpage. The more you walk, the more chances you have to win in a local drawing that will take place on September 10. The grand prize is a 1-night stay at Amalga Cabin.

New this year to Walk Southeast is a friendly competition with Wrangell and Petersburg. Since the communities are vastly different by population, the winner is the community with the highest average of miles walked per participant. All Walk Southeast participants who log at least 150 miles will be entered into a second drawing for up to 25,000 Alaska Airline miles.

For all the details, go to the Walk Southeast webpage or Facebook event.
