Project Playground Community Build a huge success thanks to volunteers

August 14, 2018 – News

The City and Borough of Juneau would like to thank Juneau for making the Community Build of Project Playground at Twin Lakes a huge success. Hundreds of volunteers showed up August 8 through August 12 in rain and shine to contribute to the building effort.

Thank you to the members of the Project Playground Steering Committee who organized the Community Build and put in countless hours of work; the Build Captains who worked 14-hour days every day; all the adults and kids who volunteered their time and effort; local artists; businesses and individuals who donated food; and those who lent tools, bought fence pickets, and have generously donated funding. Each day of the Community Build had three shifts and each shift had between 80 to 120 volunteers eagerly helping out.

The volunteers accomplished a lot during the five days – from digging trenches to installing structure roofs and cladding, from putting in fence pickets to painting. The volunteer build effort transformed the area from a construction site to a nearly complete playground that will be a community asset for years to come.

CBJ contractors still need to install the playground surfacing, which is weather dependent, before the playground opens sometime in September.
