Pavement Rehabilitation on Anka Street and Keegan Drive Begins Next Week
Pavement rehabilitation on Anka Street begins on Monday, July 13, and on Keegan Street on Friday, July 17. Construction is expected to last until Monday, August 3, 2026 depending on weather. Work on both streets includes the removal of the existing asphalt pavement, minor drainage improvement, roadway regrading, and new asphalt pavement.
Anka Street construction will impact 1810 Anka Street to the intersection with Commercial Street. Here’s what to expect starting July 13:
- During active construction hours, Anka Street will be open to local traffic only and detour signage for through traffic will be in effect
- Local access to businesses will remain open except for the day of paving, when only foot traffic beside the roadway will be allowed
- Paving will take place on a Sunday from approx. 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and during paving, pedestrian traffic will be allowed but residents and businesses will not be able to access driveways or vehicles
Keegan Street construction will impact the intersection of Keegan Street and Brothers Avenue. Here’s what to expect starting July 17:
- During active construction hours, Keegan Street will be open to local traffic only with a detour available through Grant St.
- On the day paving occurs, the project area will be completely closed to traffic from approx. 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and driveways within the work zone will not be accessible to vehicles
Business owners and residents in both project areas will be notified of any additional closures that might limit access to property or driveways. Contact contractors SECON or Hollatz Engineering for help accessing properties during a closure.
This project was selected and funded through Capital Improvement Program process, where City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ) experts in the streets, water, and sewer departments prioritize repairs and upgrades based on infrastructure age, use and needed repairs.
CBJ thanks residents for their patience and cooperation while this work to upgrade critical infrastructure is underway.
