July 26, 2023 – News

Join the City and Borough of Juneau Parks & Recreation Department for Month of Play, a month of in-person events and DIY activities taking place July 29 through August 31. With a Passport to Play, all Month of Play activities are free of charge, and you have an opportunity to win prizes. Learn more at the Month of Play website.

This year, Month of Play includes four in-person events and 12 do-it-yourself activities that are outlined in the Passport to Play. In-person events include:

  • Movie in the Park at the Dimond Park Field House, July 29 at 4 p.m. (doors open at 3:45 p.m.) – The Super Mario Bros. Movie (PG)
  • Community Day at Amalga Meadows, August 12 from 12 p.m. – 3 p.m.
  • I Spy at the Douglas Library, August 19 from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Trucks N’ Stuff at Dimond Park, August 26 from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Passports can be picked up at the Movie in the Park on July 29. Beginning August 1, they can be picked up at the Parks & Recreation office in City Hall or downloaded from the website. To complete your Passport, answer the questions or do the activity listed to receive a stamp at the respective CBJ facility or event. For each activity successfully completed, the holder will earn one ticket for a prize drawing.

The Passport to Play grants free admission to the participant and up to two guardians at Dimond Park Aquatic Center, Treadwell Arena, Dimond Park Field House and Juneau-Douglas City Museum. Passports must be submitted to Parks & Recreation by August 31 to be entered into the drawing. You can submit a Passport in person at the Parks & Recreation office, during Trucks N’ Stuff on August 26 or online through the Month of Play website. The prize drawing will be held on Friday, September 1.

Sensory-friendly alternatives are available for the Movie in the Park and Trucks N’ Stuff. A sensory-friendly showing of The Super Mario Bros. Movie (PG) is 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 29 at the Dimond Park Field House. During this show, some lights will be left on and the volume will be decreased with the subtitles on. At Trucks N’ Stuff, a quiet hour with no horns or sirens will be from 1 – 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 26 at Dimond Park.
