July 7, 2025 – News

Join CBJ Parks & Recreation for Month of Play, a month of in-person and DIY fun taking place July 12 through August 8. Complete do-it-yourself activities, use the Passport to Play for free admission to Parks & Rec facilities, join the in-person events, or do it all. All activities are free and the more you play, the more chances you have to win prizes! Learn more at the Month of Play website.

This year, Month of Play includes eight in-person events and activities:

  • Trucks N’ Stuff at Dimond Park, July 12 from 1 – 5 p.m.
  • Food Drive at Zach Gordon Youth Center, July 14–26
  • Goosechase Scavenger Hunt, July 17–28
  • Movie in the Park: A Minecraft Movie (PG) at the Dimond Park Field House, July 26 at 2 p.m. (traditional showing) and 6:30 p.m. (sensory-friendly showing)
  • StoryPath on the Seawalk, August 1–7
  • Level Up @ the Library, August 2 from 1 – 3 p.m.
  • Free Family Skate at Treadwell Arena, August 8 from 5 – 6:30 p.m.
  • Free Disco Skate at Treadwell Arena, August 8 from 7 – 8:30 p.m.

At each event, you’ll receive an entry ticket for the Month of Play drawing, featuring prizes like pool passes, private rentals at Treadwell Arena and Dimond Park Field House, free youth sports registration, and more. The prize drawing will be held on August 8 during the Free Disco Skate.

Month of Play is bringing back the popular Goosechase scavenger hunt. Download the app and search for the ‘Month of Play 2025’ Experience. You can create an account or join as a guest, then either create or join a team. Team up with family, friends, neighbors, or coworkers—complete missions, answer riddles, and check in at parks or trails. Check the Goosechase tab on the Month of Play website for all the details on how to use the app and join a team. Goosechase missions begin July 17.

Parks & Recreation is offering free equipment rental between July 12 and August 8 as part of Month of Play. One piece of equipment at a time—including pickleball, badminton, bocce ball, and more—can be checked out from the Parks & Recreation office (1208 Glacier Ave.) for a free 24-hour rental. A $25 deposit is required at the time of reservation and refunded once equipment is returned in good condition.

Don’t forget your Passport to Play, which grants free admission to the participant and up to two guardians at Augustus G. Brown Swimming Pool, Dimond Park Aquatic Center, and Dimond Park Field House (Turf for Tots only). You’ll also earn a ticket in the drawing for each visit. Download your Passport from the website beginning July 12 or pick one up at the Trucks N’ Stuff, Movie in the Park, or in the Parks & Recreation Office located at 1208 Glacier Ave.

Sensory-friendly alternatives are available for Trucks N’ Stuff and Movie in the Park. The sensory-friendly showing of A Minecraft Movie (PG) is at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 26 at the Dimond Park Field House. During this show, some lights will be left on and the volume will be decreased with the subtitles on. At Trucks N’ Stuff, a quiet hour with no horns or sirens will be held from 1 – 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 12 at Dimond Park.
