Juneau Public Libraries accepting “Food for Fines” in June

June 14, 2019 – FYI, News

For the entire month of June, the Juneau Public Libraries is accepting non-perishable food items; each item equals $5 off library fines. All donations will go to the Southeast Alaska Food Bank.

“This is something libraries around the country do and we’re happy to join in. It’s a great way for patrons to manage any outstanding fines while giving back the community,” Juneau Public Libraries Grants and Marketing Coordinator Kate Enge said.

Once an individual accrues $10 in library fines, their library card is blocked from borrowing. “Food for Fines” is often an accessible way for people to “wipe the slate clean,” Enge said.

Please note that food must be non-perishable, not homemade, and within the expiration date. “Food for Fines” does not apply to accounts sent to collections or for lost items from partner libraries.
