Drop off donations to support Tonga this weekend, Feb. 5 – 6

Drop off donations this weekend to help support Tongan-Alaskans whose family members have experienced destruction to their homes due to the volcanic eruption and tsunami in Tonga last month. Here are the details of relief effort:

Drop-off times: Saturday, February 5 and Sunday, February 6 from 12:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Drop-off locations: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 5100 Glacier Hwy OR The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints 10585 Glacier Hwy

Requested items:

  • PPE (specifically face masks & hand sanitizer)
  • Canned foods (tuna, SPAM, fruit, soup, beans, etc.)
  • Flour & sugar
  • Cleaning supplies

Community members can help by dropping off the listed items or by making an online donation at philanthropies.churchofjesuschrist.org/humanitarian-services. In the comment section, type in: “Tonga Relief.”

Tongan community members in Juneau are spearheading the local effort. Others involved include the Governor’s Office, the Municipality of Anchorage, humanitarian aid organization Samaritan’s Purse, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Juneau, Alaska Airlines, Senator Jesse Kiehl, and the City and Borough of Juneau.
