The City and Borough of Juneau Parks & Recreation Department is reopening the Augustus Brown Swimming Pool on Tuesday, September 8. With high school swim teams practicing at the Dimond Park Aquatic Center, the Augustus Brown pool will operate during the following times to offer more recreational space for community users:

  • Monday-Friday 5:30 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. & 2 p.m. – 8 p.m. (Facility will be closed Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.)
  • Saturday 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
  • Sunday 12 p.m. – 2 p.m.

Please refer to the Juneau Pools COVID-19 Mitigation Plan to see operating hours for the Dimond Park Aquatic Center. More information can be found in these Frequently Asked Questions.

During this current Phase III of reopening, drop-in recreation continues. Facility capacity at both pools is 50 or less patrons. Locker rooms will stay open for public use and showers will be available for use at both facilities starting September 8. The facilities will offer a full lap pool and a full rec pool. The following amenities remain unavailable: hot tub and sauna; slides, spray features, and diving boards; lobby tables and chairs; open swims; and fitness classes.

Per CBJ ordinance, members of the public are still required to wear face coverings in common spaces (lobby, front desk, and locker rooms/restrooms). Social distancing of at least six feet should be maintained. No member of the public displaying symptoms of COVID-19 may be present in public facilities. The fitness deck, locker and family changing rooms will be wiped down at the top of every hour. The entire facility will be closed to be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected prior to opening, during the mid-day closure, and at closing.

Parks & Recreation programs remained cancelled, including Men’s and Women’s Volleyball, Senior Open Gym/Activities, Youth Indoor Soccer, Start Smart, and the Hike Program. Mt. Jumbo Gym will remain closed until further notice, and its associated programs are cancelled. These decisions are in line with recommendations and guidance from the State of Alaska Public Health.
