The State of Alaska Division of Homeland Security & Emergency Management shared the following press release:

Disaster Assistance Center to open at Mendenhall Valley Library
Flood impacted residents can apply in-person for state disaster recovery assistance

The State of Alaska Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHS&EM), City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ), and the Alaska Volunteer Organizations Active in Disasters (AKVOAD) will be opening a Disaster Assistance Center at the Mendenhall Valley Library, August 21-23, 2023.

Monday, August 21 from 12:00 pm to 7:00 pm,
Tuesday, August 22 from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm,
Wednesday, August 23 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm

In addition to in-person registration, online and telephone registration is now available at Ready.Alaska.Gov/IA or at 844-445-7131. The deadline to apply is October 9, 2023.

Please have the following information with you when you apply:

  • Description of damages and/or losses (written, photos, video)
  • Home ownership documentation
  • Insurance information
  • Personal Identification
  • Proof of occupancy (utility bill)

The State’s Individual and Family Grant (IFG) program is designed to provide financial assistance to individuals or families for damage to primary residence, primary mode of transportation, essential personal property and medical/funeral/dental needs created as a direct result of a declared disaster.

Homeowners and renters with homes that are damaged and/or unlivable may be eligible for State Individual Assistance Temporary Housing in addition to the IFG.

In addition to state disaster recovery programs, representatives from the AKVOAD will be on hand to provide assistance, and/or identify long-term recovery needs. CBJ will have staff on-hand to answer questions help with immediate needs.
