Construction on Nowell Avenue Begins July 15

July 10, 2026 – FYI

Construction on part of Nowell Avenue begins Wednesday, July 15 and will last through September 2026. The project will replace aging underground waterlines, sewer lines, and storm drain utilities and also replace the street’s existing pavement and guardrails.

Construction will impact a section of Nowell Avenue that begins at Cordova Street and ends approximately 125 feet northwest of Sitka Street. During construction, residents should expect that:

  • Local access to driveways in the project area will remain open
  • Street parking in the project area will be unavailable
  • The end of Nowell Avenue will close occasionally for deeper digs, but be re-opened to at least 1 lane of traffic by the evening
  • The contractor, Admiralty Construction, will provide notices of any scheduled water interruptions or work that will impact specific properties

The City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ) reminds everyone to please watch for traffic control signs, construction equipment and personnel when visiting the area.

This project was selected and funded through Capital Improvement Program process, where CBJ experts in the streets, water, and sewer departments prioritize repairs and upgrades based on infrastructure age, use and needed repairs.

The CBJ thanks residents for their patience and cooperation while this work to upgrade critical infrastructure is underway.
