Community invited to Auke Lake shelter ribbon cutting Oct. 24
The Juneau Rotary clubs are holding a ribbon cutting for the new Auke Lake Wayside shelter this Thursday, October 24, at 12 p.m. The shelter is located just off the Auke Lake parking lot, adjacent to the boat ramp. The facility is managed by the City and Borough of Juneau Parks & Recreation Department.
Each year, all the Juneau Rotary clubs – Juneau Rotary, Juneau Gastineau Rotary, Juneau Glacier Valley Rotary, Juneau 58 Innovators Rotary Club, and Juneau Rotaract Club – select a project that will help the Juneau community. This year’s project was the Auke Lake Wayside shelter, which is part of CBJ’s Auke Lake Master Plan.
More than 40 Rotary volunteers provided labor for the project, Alaska Marine Lines donated shipping of the Yellow Cedar kit from Icy Straits Lumber in Hoonah, with funding from the Juneau Rotary clubs, Rotary District 5010, and the Juneau Parks Foundation. Speakers at the event will be Rotary District 5010 Governor Andre’ Layral of Fairbanks and Juneau Gastineau Rotary Club President Julie Olson.
