CBJ seeks proposals for Marie Drake and Floyd Dryden building space

April 24, 2024 – News

The City of Borough and Juneau is considering future uses for the Marie Drake and Floyd Dryden Middle School buildings and seeks proposals from community organizations interested in making use of that space.

As a result of the Juneau School District school consolidation plan, the Marie Drake and Floyd Dryden buildings will be returned to CBJ on July 1, 2024. CBJ is now considering how to optimize these spaces for the benefit of the Juneau community.

Organizations interested in making use of either space are invited to submit proposals via an online webform available at juneau.org/mdfduses. Proposals will be reviewed by the Assembly and eventually open for public comment. Tribal, nonprofit, and for-profit organizations are all welcome to submit.

Proposals are due by Monday, May 20, 2024. Please be prepared to address the following points:

  • How your proposed use aligns with Assembly goals (such as childcare and housing) or otherwise benefits the community
  • Impact on CBJ budget
  • Level of building retrofit necessary and proposed financing
  • Length of stay
  • Other compatible and non-compatible uses
  • Parking requirements

Visit juneau.org/mdfduses for site/floor plans and zoning information.

Proposals will be reviewed by the Assembly Public Works & Facilities Committee at their June 3 meeting, before proceeding to the Committee of the Whole and opportunities for public input and feedback. More information about the public feedback process will be available closer to that date (estimated July-August 2024).
