CBJ reports 27 new COVID-19 cases in Juneau Nov. 14-16

The City and Borough of Juneau Emergency Operations Center is reporting 27 new individuals with COVID-19 in Juneau – 26 are residents and one is a nonresident. These cases came in November 14-16. Public Health is attributing nine of the resident cases to secondary transmission and the rest are under investigation. The nonresident case is a visitor to Juneau.

The University of Alaska Southeast cluster is still at seven cases – one of the students returned to their home community in Alaska last week and the six other students are still isolating in a UAS residence hall.

Public Health says the Mendenhall Auto Center cluster and the cluster associated with Juneau’s vulnerable/unsheltered population are both concluded. Mendenhall Auto has conducted a series of company-wide testing efforts – results from the last two rounds of testing have all come back negative. The EOC has been testing individuals at Housing First and shelters around Juneau every Friday for the past several weeks – results from the last two rounds of testing have all come back negative. The Mendenhall Auto cluster had 50 total cases, 49 of which have recovered. The cluster associated with Juneau’s vulnerable/unsheltered population had 93 cases, 92 of which have recovered.

Cumulatively, Juneau has had 666 residents test positive for COVID-19 since March and 109 nonresidents; one resident case was incorrectly reported last week and has been removed from the total count. There are 51 active cases in Juneau and 720 individuals have recovered. All individuals with active cases of COVID-19 are in isolation.

Statewide, the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services today reports 563 new people with COVID-19 – 556 are residents and seven are nonresidents. The state reported a new resident death over the weekend – a male Anchorage resident in his 60s – bringing the total number of deaths to 98. Alaska has had 23,240 cumulative resident cases of COVID-19 and a total of 1,159 nonresidents.
