CBJ recycling center will be closed March 25, will reopen March 26

The City and Borough of Juneau Recycling Center at the landfill will be closed to the public tomorrow, March 25, while staff makes adjustments to the drop-off process to better accommodate social distancing. The recycling center will re-open on Thursday, March 26.

Starting Thursday, the public is asked to follow directions on new signs and to adhere to the following guidelines:

  1. Weekday mornings (Tuesday-Friday) from 7-9 a.m. will be reserved for people who are at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19 per CDC guidelines. Community members who are not high risk are asked to refrain from using the facility during these hours.
  2. The facility operating hours will remain Tuesday-Friday from 7 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
  3. All users must maintain 6 feet of spacing from other users at all times.
  4. Painted “lanes” will be added leading to the recycling containers. Only one user will be allowed in each lane at a time to help keep space between people.

The public is encouraged to read and follow all posted signs and have patience as the new system is put in place.
