CBJ launches easy online registration form for short-term rental operators
The City and Borough of Juneau has launched an easy online form to register short-term rental properties with the city. The form takes 5-10 minutes to complete and can be found at shorttermrentals.ci.juneau.ak.us.
On July 10, the CBJ Assembly adopted Ordinance 2023-26(c)(am), requiring short-term rental operators to register their properties with the CBJ Sales Tax Office. This step will help the city better communicate with rental operators, ensure fair and equitable sales tax compliance, and measure the impact of short-term rentals on the availability of housing in Juneau.
Registration is fast and easy, consisting of basic information like State of Alaska business license number, property location, and rental capacity. The form can be filled out on a computer or mobile phone. You can also download a pdf and submit it to the CBJ Sales Tax Office by email, postal mail, or in person.
The registration requirement goes into effect on October 8, 2023. Please be aware that by law includes a non-compliance penalty of $25 per day. All short-term rental operators are encouraged to complete their registration as soon as possible to bypass easily avoidable fines.
