The City and Borough of Juneau released a new local COVID-19 Dashboard today. Learn more about it during a Zoom Webinar tomorrow, August 13, at 2:30 p.m. City Manager Rorie Watt and CBJ Emergency Operations Center Planning Section Chief Robert Barr will provide an overview, describe the new features, explain how the new dashboard helps assess community-wide risk, and answer questions from the press. See the dashboard here.

Join the webinar https://juneau.zoom.us/j/95475813791, or call 1-346-248-7799 or 1-669-900-6833 or 1-253-215-8782. Webinar ID: 954 7581 3791. If you’re having difficulty calling in, try one of the other numbers. The webinar will also be on Facebook Live.

A big addition to the new dashboard is how active and recovered numbers are presented. Instead of distinguishing between resident and nonresident cases, the number of active cases combines both residents and nonresidents, as does the number of recovered.

“Combining them presents a more accurate picture of the state of COVID-19 in Juneau and provides a better metric for decision points on increasing required community mitigation measures. We should count the people who are physically here in the community,” EOC Planning Section Chief Robert Barr said.

Another new feature is a chart showing virus acquisition of cases from the last 14 days. It clearly shows how many cases are a result of community spread, secondary transmission, and travel, and how many cases are still under investigation. The chart will be updated weekly.

CBJ is also releasing its community risk metrics and associated mitigation strategies today. See them here. Juneau’s risk metrics are largely in line with those developed by the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services, with some local modifications.

Please note, what is known about COVID-19 is rapidly changing; the dashboard and risk metrics will evolve over time.
