CBJ Earns Perfect Score on LGBTQ+ Equality for Second Consecutive Year

November 30, 2022 – News

The City and Borough of Juneau earned a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign’s 2022 Municipality Equality Index (MEI) scorecard, HRC announced today. This is the second consecutive year CBJ earned a rating of 100 points out of 100.

“We are very proud to see Juneau’s values of inclusivity and community reflected in our score,” said Deputy City Manager Robert Barr. “This score reflects not just a commitment to equality in our laws and policies but a daily effort to ensure that every Juneau resident can expect fair treatment and access to the municipal services they need.”

The MEI is a nationwide evaluation examining how inclusive municipal laws, policies, and services are of LGBTQ+ people who live and work there. Cities are rated based on non-discrimination laws, the municipality as an employer, municipal services, law enforcement and leadership on LGBTQ+ equality.

The 2022 MEI evaluated 506 cities nationwide, including seven in Alaska. Juneau is the only city in Alaska to receive a perfect score.
