Calhoun Avenue Phase II Reconstruction To Begin April 3
Part of Calhoun Avenue will be closed to traffic beginning April 3 as CBJ and Admiralty Construction begin work on Phase II of the Calhoun Avenue Reconstruction Project. Work is expected to continue through July 2023.
The construction area will stretch from the intersection with W. 7th Street (by the Governor’s Mansion) to the intersection with Main Street. (See diagram below for details.) The intersection of W. 7th and Calhoun will remain open except for a short closure to complete water line work. Dixon Avenue will be open to local traffic only and closed at the intersection with Calhoun Avenue.
Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout construction and the Juneau-Douglas City Museum will remain open to the public.
Work will take place Monday – Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Traffic control is subject to change and notification will be provided. Please watch for traffic control signs, road closures, construction equipment and personnel.
Major work items include the replacement of underground water and services, rehabilitation of storm and sewer structures, sealing and repairs to existing retaining walls, replacement of concrete curb, gutter and sidewalks, asphalt pavement roadway resurfacing and replacement of existing street lights.
The City and Borough of Juneau, proHNS, and Admiralty Construction appreciate the understanding of the public while this critical reconstruction work is underway.
