Be mindful of equipment on Seawalk during leveling project near Fishermen’s Memorial

The City and Borough of Juneau Docks & Harbors Department has begun work on a releveling project in the downtown Seawalk. Island Contractors will be releveling the timber deck in the area between Taku Fisheries and the Port Field Office, adjacent to the Fishermen’s Memorial. Pedestrian access to the intermediate vessel float and the Seawalk will be maintained through the project, but pedestrians should be mindful of construction equipment working in the area.

This section of the Seawalk was installed directly on the fill below, which has subsided over time and caused the Seawalk to no longer be flat. The project includes the removal of a section of the existing timber deck, the addition of new fill material and geotextile fabric, the installation of new concrete footings under the timber deck, and the reinstallation of the existing timber deck. The project is scheduled for completion by February 2022, but is dependent upon weather and materials procurement.
