Bartlett Regional Hospital hires Chief Behavioral Health Officer

Tracy Dompeling of Juneau has been appointed as the Chief Behavioral Health Officer (CBHO) of Bartlett Regional Hospital. Ms. Dompeling will begin her role as CBHO on June 20.

The CBHO reports to the CEO and is responsible for overseeing a team of over 100 staff and all inpatient and outpatient behavioral health services including Bartlett Outpatient Psychiatric Services, Psychiatric Emergency Services, the adult Mental Health Unit, Rainforest Recovery Center, Applied Behavior Analysis, the Withdrawal Management Unit, and the future Crisis Stabilization Center.

Ms. Dompeling currently serves as the Director of the Division of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) with the State of Alaska. As Director, she has general agency oversight for over 400 employees, including direct care staff, nursing, and mental health, and is responsible for managing an annual budget of $58 million. She brings to Bartlett over 20 years of leadership, supervisory, and project management experience in Alaska in addition to collaborative working relationships with leadership in the Division of Behavioral Health, Office of Children’s Services, Alaska Psychiatric Institute, Division of Public Health, Department of Law, Department of Corrections, and the Alaska Mental Health Trust.

Having accessible services for our family, friends and neighbors during times of crisis and to meet their individualized needs is critical. I am honored to be taking on this role and look forward to building relationships with staff throughout the organization to ensure appropriate and effective services are provided.”

Ms. Dompeling holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work with a minor in Justice and a Master of Arts degree in Justice Administration from the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

“I am confident Tracy has the expertise and management skills to excel in this role,” said outgoing Interim CBHO Karen Forrest. “It’s an exciting time to step into this position and a tremendous team to lead – I’m eager to see the staff and services continue to flourish with her leadership.” Ms. Forrest has served as the Interim CBHO since October 2021.
