Bartlett Hospital implements vaccine mandate policy; staff must be vaxxed by Dec. 15

As a condition of employment under a vaccine mandate policy implemented this week, Bartlett Regional Hospital staff must be fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus by December 15, 2021.

This applies to all employees and contractors on campus, regardless of position or employment status. This policy was implemented as directed by the Board of Directors after receiving guidance from the City and Borough of Juneau Law Department and discussions with union leaders.

“We collaborated with union representatives to discuss the impacts of implementing this policy on our employees,” said Human Resources Director Dallas Hargrave.

The policy contains measures to allow staff to request medical or religious exemptions. After discussions with union representatives, the hospital agreed to provide the opportunity for employees to request additional leave if they become symptomatic after receiving a vaccine and have to miss work.

Nine percent or 71 of Bartlett’s 799 employees and Medical Staff are currently unvaccinated.

“Getting vaccinated is the best thing one can do to support all of our efforts and to protect each other from this pervasive, deadly, and overwhelming virus,” said Infection Preventionist Charlee Gribbon.

“The pandemic is a reminder that we must work together to build momentum and celebrate the rewards of peace and tranquility once we succeed in this shared goal of intentional wellbeing for our employees and community at large,” notes Bartlett COO Vlad Toca.

Additionally, unvaccinated employees have the opportunity to participate in virtual sessions sponsored by the BRH management and union that will answer questions about the COVID-19 vaccines.

The goal is to ensure that our hospital remains a safe place to work and to give and receive care.
