Discussion: | The National Weather Service Forecasts- TODAY...MOSTLY CLOUDY. HIGHS AROUND 38. LIGHT WINDS. TONIGHT...PARTLY CLOUDY. LOWS AROUND 27. NORTHWEST WIND 5 MPH. THURSDAY...PARTLY CLOUDY. HIGHS AROUND 39. NORTHEAST WIND 5 MPH SHIFTING TO THE NORTHWEST IN THE AFTERNOON. THURSDAY NIGHT...MOSTLY CLOUDY. LOWS AROUND 29. SOUTHEAST WIND 5 MPH. Temperatures remain cool and fell by an average of 4c over the last 2 days. The Mt Roberts Tram this morning is at -3c and the Eaglecrest Summit is at -6c. Not much warming is in the forecast for today with temps only to 38 in town. We have received very little moisture in the last few days and most of what we received came in the form of rain. We did get a little snow up high which has seen 30+ mph winds early in the event. Winds have been fairly calm over the last 24 hours. There may have been small pockets of windslab built up on N-W facing slopes over the last 48 hours. With low winds, cool temps, and no precip in the forecast today avalanche danger is LOW. Natural avalanches are unlikely. Human Triggered avalanches, although remotely possible in isolated locations up high in wind loaded pockets, are also not likely. Enjoy a great day. |
Tip: | Cross Loading: Wind blowing across a slope, depositing drifts on the sides of gullies or other terrain features. Cross slope winds typically load gullies and chutes. This may occur at any elevation depending on winds. Higher areas will typically be scoured. Low areas may look smooth or pillowed. Cross loading is the most common wind condition we have in our local urban paths with winds funneled down the channel. |
