Parks & Recreation Youth Volleyball registration opens Monday, February 24

Registration for CBJ Parks & Recreation Youth Volleyball for grades 5-6 (Elementary) and 7-8 (Middle School) opens Monday, February 24 at 12 p.m. Registration runs through March 9 and costs $45 plus tax. Late registration, beginning March 10, will incur a $10 late fee.

Register online through the Parks & Recreation catalog under the “Youth & Teen” tab. Registration is first-come, first-served. All registrations received after the session is full will be placed on a waitlist.

Youth volleyball is a great opportunity to learn new skills, practice sportsmanship, and have fun. The season runs for six weeks from April through mid-May. Teams are all coed and will practice once a week for one hour. Games will take place on Saturday between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Scholarships are available; complete the online form to apply.

Registration for youth springboard diving lessons opens February 21

Juneau Pools will offer introductory springboard diving lessons for young swimmers at Dimond Park Aquatic Center in March. Register online starting Friday, February 21 at noon.

The class will meet March 4 through March 20 on Tuesdays and Thursday nights from 7 – 7:45 p.m. The cost is $72 + tax.

This introductory class is designed for swimmers ages 6 – 11 with little to no prior diving experience. Participants will learn proper diving techniques, including approach, takeoff, flight, and entry. The focus will be on building confidence and mastering basic dives.

Please note that participants must pass a swim test on the first day of class. The test includes 30 seconds of treading water and 25 yards (one pool length) of continuous swimming.

Notice of TEFRA public hearing on February 28

Notice is hereby given that the City and Borough of Juneau, Alaska (the “City and Borough”) will hold an open public hearing on February 28, 2025, at 12:00pm (noon)., or as soon thereafter as possible, in Conference Room 237 at City Hall of the City and Borough, located at 155 Heritage Way, Juneau, Alaska, 99801, for the purpose of considering the issuance by the City and Borough of its Port Revenue Refunding Bond, 2025 (AMT) in the principal amount of not to exceed $5,000,000 (the “Bond”).  The proceeds of the Bond will be used by the City and Borough to refinance the expansion of the existing downtown cruise ship dock between 470 and 510 South Franklin Street in Juneau, Alaska.  The project to be refinanced included construction of two new offshore floating moorage berths to accommodate cruise ships of the Post Panamax type in the range of 1,000+/- foot length.  The offshore facilities include floating moorage berths, drive down transfer bridges, dolphins, and other necessary infrastructure to accommodate cruise ships.  The City and Borough is the owner of the refinanced facilities.

The Regular Planning Commission meets Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. in the Assembly Chambers.
