Additional sandbag distribution events scheduled for July 19 & July 26

The City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ) and Tlingit & Haida are partnering to host two sandbag distribution events later this month at the Dimond Park Field House. Events will be held on:

  • Saturday, July 19 – 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, July 26 – 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

These events aim to help residents prepare for potential flooding along the Mendenhall River.

What to Expect

  • Sand, empty bags, and shovels will be provided for public use.
  • Pre-filled sandbags will not be available.
  • Space will be available for residents to fill their own bags on site.
  • Volunteers may be on hand to assist.

Important Guidelines

  • Households located within the predicted 18-foot flood inundation area may collect up to 75 sandbags, including those that participated in a previous sandbag distribution event(s).
  • Supplies are limited. Please take only what you need to help ensure availability for others in need.

Montana Creek Master Plan public meeting to be held August 10

CBJ Parks & Recreation, together with Trail Mix, the United States Forest Service, the State of Alaska Department of Natural Resources and Department of Transportation, will be presenting the draft Master Plan for the Montana Creek Recreation Area at a public meeting on Wednesday, August 10 at 5:30 p.m. in a Zoom webinar. The master plan process began last August with a community-wide survey and continued with stakeholder meetings through the fall and winter. Based on the input from the survey and the meetings, a draft master plan was developed for review and comment by the community.

Questions will be addressed at the conclusion of the presentation. Public comments will be accepted via email to [email protected] through 5 p.m. on September 10.
