Paddle over for dive-in movie at AGB Pool on October 4

Augustus G. Brown Swimming Pool is hosting its first dive-in movie! Join CBJ Parks & Recreation for Inside Out 2 (PG) at 6:15 p.m. on Friday, October 4. This event is sponsored by Glacier Pediatrics.

Please be aware that space is limited to 75 guests. Locker rooms open 15 minutes before showtime, but guests are welcome to queue in the lobby.

Regular pool admission applies; pool passes are accepted. For more information about admission and passes, visit juneaupools.org.

Hank Harmon Public Range closed September 29 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. for cleanup

The Hank Harmon Public Range (HHPR) will be closed on Sunday, September 29 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. for its biannual range cleanup day. The public is welcome to join the cleanup effort. HHPR will reopen at 12 p.m.

Join Friends of Jensen-Olson Arboretum for ribbon-cutting on September 28

Jensen-Olson Arboretum is excited to announce the latest addition to the grounds: a new accessible pathway! Join Friends of Jensen-Olson Arboretum on Saturday, September 28 at 1 p.m. to celebrate with a ribbon-cutting and refreshments.

The newly constructed pathway will allow visitors with mobility challenges to move more freely through the garden. The project was made possible by generous support from the AARP’s Community Challenge Grant Program, the family of Cheryl Fluck, Juneau-Gastineau Rotary, Juneau Community Foundation, and Friends of Jensen-Olson Arboretum.

This event will be one of the last opportunities of the 2024 season to visit the Arboretum before it closes for maintenance until January.

Join Dzantik’i Heeni playground community kick-off on October 8

Lemon Creek is getting a new place to play! Join CBJ, JSD and Corvus Design for a community kick-off event on Tuesday, October 8 and learn more about the new Dzantik’i Heeni Schools playground, scheduled to break ground next year.

The kick-off will take place in the Dzantik’i Heeni Campus Commons from 7 – 8 p.m. At this community meeting, you’ll have the opportunity to learn about the project, ask questions, and provide feedback.

The new playground will serve both Dzantik’i Heeni families and the greater Lemon Creek community—so whether you’re a student, parent, teacher, or Lemon Creek neighbor, this is your opportunity to get involved and share your thoughts.

Jensen-Olson Arboretum closed October – December

The Jensen-Olson Arboretum will be closed to the public for the months of October through December while facilities maintenance is underway. The Arboretum will reopen on January 3.

The Arboretum will welcome visitors for one final week of fall from Wednesday, September 25 through Sunday, September 29 before wrapping up the season with a ribbon-cutting to celebrate a new accessible pathway on the grounds—stay tuned for event details soon. Visitation is available by appointment through October 5.

During the closure, access to the parking lot along Glacier Highway and Point Caroline Trail will remain open. The Arboretum is also available for wedding rentals and educational opportunities—contact the Arboretum Manager or CBJ Parks & Recreation for more information.

The Arboretum will reopen in January for winter hours, Fridays through Sundays from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Winter hours continue through March.
