The U.S. Forest Service will be flying gravel from the back end of Eaglecrest Ski Area’s upper parking lot to the Dan Moller Cabin on Thursday, July 30. Forest Service staff will provide traffic control in the parking lot while helicopters are taking off and landing. Expect intermittent stoppages coming into and out of the parking lot.
Eaglecrest Ski Area will be closed to all users on Thursday, July 23 for rock quarry blasting. Eaglecrest contractor Alaska Juneau Construction will be blasting the upper mountain material source located at the bottom of the ski trail Inside Passage. The mountain will need to be clear of all public by 6 a.m. July 23 and will only be reopened once the blast is complete and everything is clear.
The freshly blasted rock will be used for Eaglecrest’s ongoing trail construction activity around the mountain related to the City and Borough of Juneau COVID-19 Conservation Corp work program. Once the mountain reopens, all hiking and biking users are asked yield to construction machinery for the duration of the summer trail construction season. This is for the safety of the trail construction crew, contractors, and recreationalists.

The City and Borough of Juneau Parks & Recreation Department and Eaglecrest Ski Area are recruiting for Park Maintenance Workers and Trail Crew members to help develop and maintain the parks and trails in Juneau. These employees will be part of the new COVID-19 Conservation Corps, a program which focuses on workforce development and job training for people furloughed, unemployed, or underemployed due to COVID-19.
Workers at Eaglecrest will help develop and maintain the hiking, mountain bike, and ski trails at Eaglecrest (full job description). Workers for Parks & Recreation will be dispatched to various parks and trails throughout CBJ (full job description). This is a unique opportunity to assist CBJ in expanding recreational activities at Eaglecrest and throughout Juneau.
CBJ is looking for people who enjoy working outdoors (rain or shine), can perform physical work, are reliable and dependable, and are able to work collaboratively as part of a team. The Eaglecrest Board Finance Committee meeting, originally scheduled as a teleconference on Wednesday, May 20, has been rescheduled. The meeting will now take place on Thursday, May 28, at 5:30 p.m. in the Great Room of Eaglecrest’s Fish Creek Lodge. There will be plenty of room for proper social distancing at the meeting.
Board members will review proposed pricing for the 2020-2021 winter season at the meeting. The committee will also be looking at a revised budget based on post-COVID19 outbreak economic conditions and funds that the Assembly Finance Committee is moving forward as part of the final CBJ budget.

Starting Friday morning, March 20, Eaglecrest Ski Area will be suspending all operations in an effort to contain the spread coronavirus disease (COVID-19). This decision was not made lightly; it was made to keep Eaglecrest staff, guests, and community healthy and safe.
The locker rooms in Fish Creek Lodge will be accessible today and tomorrow (March 19 & 20) from 8:30 AM to 7:00 PM. Please collect your belongings now or wait until later this spring or summer. No more than 10 people will be allowed in the Fish Creek Lodge at a time.
Everyone is still welcome to enjoy the mountain. Community members are welcome to ski tour, sled, and play in the snow, but please continue to practice social distancing and stay at least six feet away from others. If you have been traveling recently, please follow the State of Alaska’s guidance.
If you plan to ski tour, please refer to Eaglecrest’s uphill traffic policy. Treat all terrain as backcountry terrain, travel with a partner, and know avalanche risks and safety measures before you go. There will be no ski patrol rescue services or avalanche mitigation. At this time, Eaglecrest has no plans to groom alpine or Nordic ski trails.
