2021 Candidate Nominating Filing Period for Assembly and School Board Seats Opens July 16 (8:00a.m.) & Closes July 26 (4:30p.m.)

CBJ Declaration of Candidacy Forms and Nominating Petitions are available in the Municipal Clerk’s office in City Hall and on line at: https://juneau.org/clerk/elections

The filing period for the City & Borough of Juneau Assembly and School Board opens Friday, July 16, 2021 at 8:00 a.m. Voters will elect a Mayor, two Assemblymembers and three School Board members at the October 5, 2021 Regular Municipal Election which will be held as a Vote By Mail election similar to that conducted for the October 2020 Regular Municipal Election. The Candidate filing period closes Monday, July 26, 2021 at 4:30 p.m.

Offices to be filled (elected by the voters at-large):
One (1) Mayor – 3 year term

One (1) District One Assemblymember – 3 year term

One (1) District Two Assemblymember – 3 year term

Three (3) Board of Education (School Board) seats – 3 year terms each

Candidates for office must be qualified voters of the City and Borough of Juneau:
(1) Qualified to vote in State elections;
(2) A resident of the municipality for at least thirty days immediately preceding the election;
(3) Registered to vote in state elections at a residence address within the municipality at least thirty days before the municipal election at which the person seeks to vote; and
(4) Not disqualified under Article V of the Alaska Constitution.

In addition, candidates for Assembly must be a resident of CBJ for at least one year immediately preceding election to office. Also, candidates for Assembly District 1 and District 2 seats must reside in the district from which elected or appointed at the time of the Assemblymember’s election or appointment.

Declaration of Candidacy and Nominating forms must be submitted in their original paper form (with original signatures and notarized). The Alaska Public Offices Commission also requires candidates to file their Public Official Financial Disclosure Statement electronically on its website, print and sign that form and submit it along with the Declaration of Candidacy and Nominating petition to the Clerk’s office during the filing period. The Clerk’s office cannot certify a candidate’s nominating petition without these three original paper documents being filed in the Clerk’s office by the close of the filing period on Monday, July 26, 2021 at 4:30p.m.

Special Assembly Meeting Monday, July 12 at 11 a.m.

The Mayor has scheduled a Special Assembly Meeting on Monday, July 12, 2021 at 11:00a.m. which will be held via Zoom webinar only using the link or phone number below. The Special Assembly meeting will consider an amendment to Resolution 2958: A Resolution of the City and Borough of Juneau in Support of the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainably and Equity (RAISE) Grant Program. The Assembly adopted Resolution 2958 on June 14, 2021. Version (b) of this resolution is being proposed to give the Assembly an opportunity to amend the resolution to provide a nonbinding dollar amount for the match funding.

The Special Assembly meeting is being held at 11:00a.m. in order to meet the grant application deadline of 1:00p.m. on July 12, 2021. The meeting packet is posted online here.

Apply to serve on the Airport Board; deadline is July 12

The Assembly Human Resources Committee has extended the deadline to apply to the Airport Board to Monday, July 12 at 4:30 p.m. The empowered board, which oversees the maintenance and operations of the Juneau International Airport, is looking to fill two full-term seats – one tenant of the Juneau International Airport and one general public seat.

Individuals that serve on a CBJ board are part of the backbone of local government. All community members who have the time and interest are encouraged to submit an application.

Volunteers needed to serve on a variety of CBJ Boards & Commissions

The City and Borough of Juneau is seeking applicants for a variety of volunteer boards, like Eaglecrest Board, Airport Board, Docks & Harbors Board, and the Board of Equalization. Individuals that serve on a CBJ board are part of the backbone of local government. All community members who have the time and interest are encouraged to submit an application.

Applications for empowered boards (Airport, Docks & Harbors, and Eaglecrest boards) are due by 4:30 p.m. Monday, May 31:

  • The Airport Board, which is looking to fill two seat, oversees the maintenance and operations of the Juneau International Airport.
  • The Docks & Harbors Board, which is looking to fill three seats, oversees operation of all CBJ port and harbor facilities.
  • The Eaglecrest Board, which is looking to fill two seats, oversees the management and operation of the municipally-owned Eaglecrest Ski Area.
  • The Board of Equalization is a quasi-judicial board that meets May to August to hear property assessment appeals.

Once received, applications are forwarded to the Assembly Human Resources Committee for consideration and appointment recommendations go to the Assembly for final action. Notice of TEFRA public hearing May 21 1 p.m.

Notice is hereby given that the City and Borough of Juneau, Alaska (the “City and Borough”) will hold an open public hearing on May 21, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. Alaska Standard Time, or as soon thereafter as possible, to be conducted via Zoom and telephone conference call pursuant to IRS Revenue Procedures 2020-21 and 2020-49, for the purpose of considering the issuance by the City and Borough of its Port Revenue Refunding Bond (AMT) in the principal amount of not to exceed $7,500,000 (the “Bond”).

The proceeds of the Bond will be used by the City and Borough to refinance the expansion of the existing downtown cruise ship dock between 470 and 510 South Franklin Street in Juneau, Alaska. The project to be refinanced included construction of two new offshore floating moorage berths to accommodate cruise ships of the Post Panamax type in the range of 1,000+/- foot length. The offshore facilities include floating moorage berths, drive down transfer bridges, dolphins, and other necessary infrastructure to accommodate cruise ships. The City and Borough is the owner of the refinanced facilities.
