Some of the recent questions we’ve been asked and added to the FAQs include the following:

I’ve already mailed my ballot or dropped it off in the drop box, is there anything I can do to change my vote now?

If you have already mailed in or deposited your ballot at one of the drop boxes or vote centers, we cannot issue you a replacement ballot. Once you’ve turned in or mailed your ballot, it is considered cast and it cannot be re-voted.

I’ve already filled out my ballot but not yet mailed it. Now I want to change how I marked the ballot, can I get a replacement ballot?

If you have not yet sent in your voted ballot and want to spoil that ballot you received in the mail and be issued a replacement ballot, take your by mail ballot to one of our two Vote Centers (dates/times/locations listed on our website at https://juneau.org/clerk/elections) and they can destroy that ballot and issue you a replacement. Vote Center issued ballots must be voted at the Vote Center and cannot be removed from the Vote Center for voting at a later time.

If there were a replacement issued from a vote center, but your initial ballot was already mailed, only the first ballot received would count and any subsequent ballot would be rejected. In addition to that, your Voter Certification that you sign on your ballot envelope also states that you will not vote in any other manner in this election and has legal penalties for falsely signing the declaration.

How to vote in the Municipal Election: drop box, vote center, or mail

Juneau voters can vote now in the City and Borough of Juneau Municipal Election. On the ballot are candidates for Mayor, two Assembly members, three School Board members, and one ballot proposition. Ballots were mailed to all qualified registered voters September 14. There are three easy ways to cast your ballot:

Place your ballot in a Secure Ballot Drop Box outside the Douglas Library or the Statter Harbor boat launch parking lot; or
Take your ballot to a Juneau Vote Center at City Hall or the Mendenhall Valley Public Library (see hours below); or
Mail your ballot through the U.S. Postal Service no later than Election Day, October 5; no stamp required but getting it postmarked is highly recommended.

Secure Ballot Drop Boxes

Secure Ballot Drop boxes are open until 8 p.m. on October 5 at these two locations:

Statter Harbor Boat Launch Parking Lot (NOT the Harbor Office parking lot), 11801 Glacier Hwy, Auke Bay
Douglas Library/Fire Hall Community Building, 1016 3rd Street, Douglas

Juneau Vote Centers

Drop off voted ballots, request a new or replacement ballot, request voter assistance, or register to vote or update voter registration for future elections at two Juneau Vote Centers:

City Hall – Assembly Chambers (155 S. Seward St.)

Weekdays thru Oct. 4 at 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Election Day, Oct. 5 at 7 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Mendenhall Valley Public Library (3025 Dimond Park Loop)

Weekdays thru Oct. 4 at 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Saturdays, Sept. 25 & Oct. 2 at 12 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Election Day, Oct. 5 at 7 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Items coming up for Public Hearing at September 29 Special Assembly Meeting

The City and Borough of Juneau Alaska Assembly will take public hearing on the following items at the September 29, 2021 Special Assembly Meeting at 6:00p.m. This meeting will be held in the Assembly Chambers, and livestreamed telephonically on Facebook and Zoom. Ordinance 2021-42 An Ordinance Reestablishing the City and Borough of Juneau COVID-19 Mitigation Strategies and Providing for a Penalty.

The full agenda packet will be available at https://juneau.org/assembly/assembly-minutes-and-agendas on the business day prior to the meeting.

The Assembly will follow COVID protocols in accordance with CDC guidelines, CBJ ordinances & resolutions, and COVID mitigation strategies at the time of the meeting. Assemblymembers will be meeting in person, to the extent possible. In-person public participation will be limited on a first come, first served basis in accordance with room capacity protocols. All attendees will be required to wear a mask regardless of vaccination status. Attendees in excess of the room capacity protocols may be requested to participate via Zoom webinar.

Testimony time will be limited by the Mayor based on the number of participants. Members of the public are encouraged to send their comments in advance of the meeting to [email protected]. October 5, 2021 Ballots Being Mailed Today (9/14/21)

Ballot Drop Box - Auke Bay

Ballots for CBJ’s October 5 Municipal Election are being mailed to all qualified registered voters Tuesday, September 14. Be on the lookout for your ballot in the coming days! There are 3 ways to cast your ballot:

Starting Sept. 16, place your ballot in a Secure Ballot Drop Box outside the Douglas Library/Fire Hall Community Building or the Statter Harbor BOAT LAUNCH parking lot (Not the Harbor Office Parking Lot); or
Starting Sept. 20, take your ballot to a Juneau Vote Center located at City Hall in the Assembly Chambers or the Mendenhall Valley Public Library; or
Mail your ballot through the U.S. Postal Service no later than Election Day, October 5; no stamp required but getting it postmark is highly recommended.

Workers needed for CBJ’s Oct. 5 Municipal Election

The City and Borough of Juneau is looking for civic-minded and hard-working individuals to assist Juneau voters during the October 5 Regular Municipal Election. In the coming weeks, CBJ will be hiring/re-hiring election workers for a wide variety of tasks, including:

Election Call Center Workers
Vote Center Workers
Ballot Drop Box Teams
On-Call Election Workers
Canvass Review Board Workers

Dates, times, and duration of work will vary depending on need. Anyone interested in applying is encouraged to contact Municipal Clerk/Election Official Beth McEwen at 907-586-5278 or [email protected]. Pay for election workers varies depending on the particular job and duties involved. Interested individuals will be asked to submit an updated CBJ job application.

To qualify to be an Election Worker, you must be registered to vote in Alaska; enjoy interaction with the public; perform duties in a neutral/non-partisan fashion; and comply with all CBJ election laws, policies, and procedures, and maintain the confidentially of voter information in accordance with the State of Alaska Division of Election rules and regulations.

An election worker should not work or volunteer on the campaign of a candidate or ballot initiative that may appear on the municipal ballot. In addition, an election worker cannot have a familial relationship with a candidate on the municipal ballot (or any write-in candidates). A familial relationship includes mother, mother-in-law, stepmother; father, father-in-law, stepfather; sister, sister-in-law, stepsister; brother, brother-in-law, stepbrother; spouse; or person sharing the same living quarters.
